These sound simple 👆 right?

It takes a skilled clinical practitioner to be able to set a rehabilitation plan that is individual to you.
It then takes further skill to be able to correctly adjust that depending on you, your injury,🤕 where you are at with your progress 🏋️‍♀️ (or not 🙃) the specifics of your goals 🤺🏊‍♀️⛹️‍♀️🤸‍♀️and how far to push you without causing damage.

Rehab is complex, injury is complex, people are guess what ... complex !

So a practitioner that guides you through step by step with correct progressions and regressions (especially while communicating this to you effectively to not destroy your confidence - a whole other post for another time !) Is worth. their. weight. in. gold. ⭐

Don't underestimate how hard a good rehab / strength / return to sports fitness plan is when set properly. And not simply copy and pasted from Google for every single client 😱😠

Speed bump ahead ⚠️
A reminder that all Physiotherapy clinical appointments that are face to face, and home visits will be ending on 30th of September, and will resume in spring 2022.
There's no getting off this rollercoaster ride for me !
And whilst I need to do my job as a Physio, I also need to do my job as a new mamma and look after me and my new Tye Trio.
Please DM before then for the last few slots remaining if you'd like to see me before maternity leave kicks in.

You know what, pregnancy is hard work.
There's a ton of rubbish out there and when you need some good, evidence based knowledge (particularly surrounding fitness in pregnancy) there's not enough.
It should not be 9+ months of "put your feet up", and sometimes "listen to your body" isn't helpful information if you have previously been very active (like me).
I appreciate everyone's journey is different, so I will be sharing some info about keeping fit in pregnancy and myth busting for all those who need it on here and on
It's a huge topic and one that I understand triggers emotions for a lot of women (and men!) out there. So wherever you are on your journey do it with support, and with guidelines based on evidence - not a forum site !

This 📙 is brilliant.
I'm still working my way through, but it's been a really great resource for me as a first time pregnancy and as a Physio to understand what is happening and get some good, no-nonsense advice !
I'm a bit sick of hearing
"Listen to your body"
"Your midwife will tell you nearer the time" ...

A big thankyou to for getting all of her advice into print.
Highly recommended !

A Physio Assessment
✏📋

I've had a few enquiries lately to ask about having a Physiotherapy assessment at
Most common FAQ's I get -

👉 What does it involve ?
Well, in a nutshell an in-depth chat about you and the problem.
I also need to look at how your moving and test certain joints and muscles (and other structures) to see how the respond to moving and some amount of stress testing.
For some movements, we may film you (with your consent) and play this back to show the problem to you more easily.

👉 What should I wear?
Generally something comfortable that you can move well in. We may need to remove clothing (I.e. a top) to be able to see the while of your shoulder better. You will NOT be asked to get naked !

👉 Will it hurt ?
All healthcare professionals live by the "First do no harm" (although I've seen some questionable IG accounts 😉)
So yes it may feel uncomfortable, and we may have to reproduce your pain during the assessment to give us a clearer idea of what's going on, but I will never intentionally hurt you.
No pain no gain is not a rule here !

Lifting in Pregnancy.
🏋️‍♀️
I'm now able to lift the same as I was pre-pregnancy.
I'm not including any dynamic olympic lifting with a bar, and keeping it simple with squats, Straight leg Deadlifts and Overhead Squats.
For people who are very fit pre-pregnancy the majority of the advice is:
"Keep doing what your doing"
"Maintain your fitness"
"Listen to your body"
I have also read "Don't start kickboxing" 😂
Sadly there is minimal research on increasing your strength, or working with higher resistance during pregnancy (and for very obvious reasons...imagine the ethical approval needed 🤯). So a lot of it is anecdotal, which is inspiring to read, but hard to apply for someone like me who relies on evidence based practice.
So it's been a hard thing (for me) to stop at this weight, but after discussions with both my womens health physio and my coach this is where I'll stay until the big day comes.
Yes there are a few odd looks when I step up to the bar, but it's keeping me strong physically and mentally to be able to keep these sessions going, and I plan to do that for as long as bump will let me.
If you have any training tips for pregnancy (whatever stage, or even after) I'd love to hear them.
Drop me a DM or comment if you want to.

PPE and Face Masks Policy.
Yes restrictions in the UK are lifitng from today, however as like many other health care providers and small business I felt that an update for clarity is warranted.
If you have a Physio appointment to see me I will still be in PPE (gloves, gown and mask) and I'll be asking all patients to wear a face mask (unless medically exempt).
Generally you'll have an hour with me and this is in one enclosed room for privacy.
Cleaning before and after every patient is now standard (and hadn't really changed from pre-Covid-19 times).
I'm regularly using lateral flow tests each week and additionally ask for any signs and symptoms before you have your appointment (this also applies to myself) and if you need to reschedule due to health issues then there is no fee for this - to keep everyone as safe as possible.
We are still in a Pandemic.
If you are unsure please drop me a DM or call.
