At A.H. Cheater we understand that saying goodbye is never easy. That’s why we offer memorial jewellery - a beautiful, personal way to keep your loved one close to your heart. In memoriam jewellery is a perfect way to remember someone special and create a unique treasure either using their ashes or fingerprints. We are delighted to work closely with Little Fingers 'n' Toes a local independent jewellery maker in Warsash and Ashes into Glass. Through them, we can offer an extensive range of in memoriam jewellery including rings, bracelets, pendants and charms.

For a truly unique send-off there are various options. If you love the idea of using a Routemaster bus, instead of a traditional hearse, we can make it happen. This particular vehicle is an original London Transport 1965 Routemaster Long wheelbase, and was in service on the routes 14 and 22. A deck is fitted downstairs to accommodate a coffin and it is based in Nottinghamshire.

If you have particular ideas for honouring your loved one, come talk to us about them - we'll let you know all of the possibilities and help you create something truly unique.

It is common within the funeral profession that many independent businesses are looked after by several generations of the same family. A.H. Cheater Funeral Directors are proud to have been run by three generations of the Peace family, who continue to serve the community with their emphasis on traditional family care.

The Peace family’s connection with A.H. Cheater started in 1966 when Peter Peace moved from St Cross to Romsey with his wife Barbara and their two children Jane and Simon. He took over the running of the business from Sammy Fields, who stayed on to help Peter for a while. Peter carried out his duties for over 35 years, with much dignity and respect, and was well known within the local community.

Although numerous things have changed dramatically with the business over the years, we still hold the same values that Peter instilled and hope that he would be proud that his son and grandson continue to take the business forward.

Have you heard of a direct cremation? It is a simple option where the cremation takes place without a funeral service or mourners present.

This choice can be a more affordable way to say goodbye, as it removes the need for expenses like funeral cars, a full-length crematorium service, a minister or celebrant, flowers, and service sheets.

Reach out to us for more information and guidance - our team is always ready to offer support and understanding.

At a funeral, words can sometimes feel inadequate. However, remember that you don't need to say anything profound or fix anyone's emotions. A simple 'I'm so sorry for your loss' or a shared memory of the deceased can be a great comfort. Be there to listen if they want to talk or offer a hug if it feels appropriate.

Don’t overthink it - Your presence and kind words speak volumes.

In the UK, you can scatter your loved one's ashes over land or water – provided you have permission from the landowner. Some locations (such as public spaces) may have their own rules, so it's important to check with your local council or park authority.

Places of peace, where you can scatter ashes and visit when you need to find connection and calm, are nearby – you may be surprised at the options you have. If you have an idea for a place but are unsure of permissions, talk to us – we can let you know who you need to reach out to take the next steps.

The only family run funeral directors of Romsey and North Baddesley

A. H. Cheater are proud to be the only family owned funeral directors in Romsey and North Baddesley, continuing 3 generations of service to the local community since 1966.

Mr Albert Henry Cheater , a former Chief Fire Officer in the town, first established the business and he was succeeded by Sam Fields. Peter Peace carried out his duty as funeral director in the town with much dignity, care and professionalism for over 30 years.

Simon and his son Michael Peace now look after the day to day running of the business. Simon went to school in Romsey and then joined his father in 1981. Once a keen sportsman, he now enjoys keeping livestock and has successfully shown them at local agricultural shows over the years.

Michael became the third generation in 2003. He was also schooled in Romsey and was head chorister at Romsey Abbey. Having played both Cricket and Rugby locally, he now lives on the premises in Romsey with his family.
