🎄💝 Westbank’s Christmas Kindness Appeal 2025 💝🎄

Today, on National Kindness Day, we’re proud to launch something truly special — a chance for our community to come together and brighten the lives of those who need it most. ❤️✨

As the festive season approaches, we’re reminded that Christmas isn’t just about gifts and glitter — it’s about kindness, community, and caring for one another.

This year, Westbank is putting together 10 Special Christmas treat hampers filled with festive goodies, comfort items, and a little sparkle of love — and we’d like your help to find the right people to receive them. 🎁✨

And to make it even more magical…
🎅 Father Christmas and his elves will be personally delivering the hampers on Christmas Eve!

Do you know an elderly person in the Ross-on-Wye area who will be on their own this Christmas?
A neighbour, friend, or someone quietly getting by who could use a little extra joy this year?

🎉💐 A Very Happy 95th Birthday to Our Wonderful Resident, Joy! 💐🎉

Today we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating a truly incredible milestone — Joy’s 95th birthday! 🥳

Joy is such a bright, kind, and caring member of our Westbank family. She’s always ready with a smile and a story to share, and we’re so grateful to have her as part of our community. 💕

There’s still time to spread a little kindness and joy this Christmas! 🌟
We’re collecting care packages for women and families supported by West Mercia Women’s Aid — and every shoebox makes a difference. ❤️

🧴 What to include:
• Toiletries (shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste)
• Warm socks, gloves, or scarves
• Stocking fillers or snacks
• A kind message or festive card 🎄

📅 Donations needed by: Sunday 8th December
📍 Drop-off point: Westbank

🌼 A little update from our week so far at Westbank! 🌼

We started the week on a high with Music and Movement led by our wonderful Su. What was meant to be gentle exercise quickly turned into fits of laughter — there’s nothing quite like a good giggle to get the week off to a bright start! 😄 The room was full of smiles, a few impressive dance moves, and plenty of fun.

Later that day, we paused for something truly special — our Remembrance Service. We were honoured to be joined by St Mary’s Community Volunteers Sue,Jane, Mary & Mary who helped us create a moving and heartfelt service right here in our home. Residents and staff came together to reflect, remember, and give thanks to those who have served and sacrificed. ❤️

Following the service, we gathered for our Second WWI Meeting — an exciting new group forming within Westbank! During the meeting, we nominated our Chairperson and Secretary and shared ideas on how this group will help bring our community even closer together. There was so much enthusiasm and pride in the room as we discussed plans for future projects.

Today, it was time for a little self-care with our pamper morning — hand massages, manicures, Hair and plenty of chatter! 💅 Afterwards, we came together to observe a respectful 2-minute silence before finishing the afternoon with one of our all-time favourites — Bingo! Eyes down, there was plenty of excitement as the prizes started rolling out. 🎉

It’s been a wonderful week so far filled with laughter, reflection, and togetherness — everything that makes Westbank such a special place to be. 💛

🌺 Westbank Remembers 🌺

Our residents have been busy this week creating a beautiful remembrance display, filled with handmade poppies, Union flags, and heartfelt messages of respect. They also wrote our very own Westbank Remembrance Poem, reflecting on memories, gratitude, and the importance of honouring those who gave so much.

Our Floral Club also created stunning floral tributes for the dining tables, adding a thoughtful and peaceful touch to our remembrance week.

Although we were sadly unable to attend the Prospect service today, our residents gathered together to watch the national Remembrance Service from London on TV — a moving and emotional tribute.

Tomorrow, we will hold our own special Remembrance Service here at Westbank, where our residents will lay a wreath at the Prospect in honour of all who served and sacrificed.

Lest we forget. ❤️🇬🇧

🌟 This Week at Westbank! 🌟

Our residents have been busy enjoying a wonderful mix of activities — from Mindful Art creating Remembrance Poppies to Friday Football with the brilliant Ross Juniors Outreach Team! ⚽️

We’ve also loved our relaxing “Wake Up with Katie” sessions, getting lost in stories at Book Club, sharing laughs at Knit & Knatter, and taking time for some special one-to-one reminiscing moments. 💬💖

It’s been a week full of creativity, connection, and community spirit here at Westbank! ❤️

There are two ways you can help:
1️⃣ Fill a shoebox yourself with thoughtful items such as toiletries, warm socks, snacks, stocking fillers for children, and a kind festive message.
2️⃣ Donate a few items, and we’ll use them to build complete shoeboxes on your behalf!

Our residents enjoyed a relaxing morning of pampering and fresh hairdos, followed by an afternoon of bingo, laughter, and a few lucky winners! 🎱🏆

💈 We’re Supporting Movember at Westbank! 💈

If you notice some extra fuzzy faces around Westbank this month — from impressive moustaches to slightly questionable stubble — don’t worry, it’s all for a very good cause!

Throughout November, our male colleagues and residents are joining forces to take part in Movember, the global campaign that raises awareness and funds for men’s health issues — including mental health, su***de prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

Movember is more than just growing a moustache — it’s about starting conversations that can save lives. It’s about reminding the men in our lives to check in on their health, to talk when times are tough, and to look after themselves and each other.

We’re proud to support this important movement and stand alongside our brilliant men — staff, residents, and visitors — as they embrace the whiskers and wear them with pride! 👨🏻🧔🏻💪🏻

So, if you pop in and notice Westbank looking a little hairier than usual, give a nod (or a comb!) to Movember.
