At ROADS we truly value our team. Every quarter we ask colleagues to nominate a staff member for staff recognition - and this quarter, the award went to recovery worker, Tanya!

Tanya received seven nominations from colleagues for:

- Her commitment and dedication to her new role and being an asset to the team
- Being a big team player who is smashing her new role
- For having a great first three months in the role
- For hard work and resilience
- For the support and help she offers to both staff and clients
- For bossing the new role
- Being kind, caring and helpful with genuine empathy to clients

Tanya said: "I've only been in the role three months - so I'm so proud to be recognised already. I've never felt recognised in a job before, and my old role nearly broke me and my confidence. But to come here and be welcomed with open arms is so nice."

Did you know that in the UK, data suggests that the most commonly searched terms online in relation to drug or alcohol support include: “Addiction Recovery Centers UK” and "Alcohol rehab programme"?

Earlier this month, we invited rehab providers to an event in Rotherham to help more people learn about the rehab support available.

Reece Storr, our service manager, said: "The day was important for people to meet with the providers of rehab services and to understand how the different facilities work. We wanted to share more about our own rehab offer and let people know that there is an option in Rotherham but also share good practice and raise awareness of our partners. I'd like to thank the Unity Centre Rotherham for hosting and our wonderful partners and collaborators for joining us."

The event was so successful, we're now looking at planning our next one!

Here are some cosy, alcohol-free ways to enjoy the festive season at home:

🎨 Get creative - try painting, drawing, or crafting some Christmas decorations
📚 With the weather getting colder, it’s okay to stay in and watch your favourite TV show or Christmas film
🍳 Try baking a Christmas treat
🧘‍♀️ Try meditation to relax and see if you can go for a walk in the daytime
📞 Connect with a friend or loved one over a call or video chat

Heard of nitrous oxide? It's a gas used medically as an anaesthetic and is also known as "laughing gas".

Some people use it as a recreational drug, usually inhaled from a balloon. It’s a depressant that slows down your brain and your body’s responses, not unlike alcohol, and leads to feelings of relaxation or happiness.
