Eating certain foods can either help or harm our health.
Conditions like depression, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, dementia, allergies, asthma, chronic fatigue, autoimmune disease—and many others— are all inflammatory diseases.
So what’s driving so much inflammation? A major factor is our diet: too many pro-inflammatory foods and not enough anti-inflammatory ones.
While some foods can trigger inflammation, food is also one of our most powerful tools for reducing it. Plant-based foods contain over 25,000 phytochemicals, many of which have potent anti-inflammatory effects. Polyphenols found in colorful fruits and vegetables are among nature’s strongest inflammation fighters.
Extra virgin olive oil, for example, contains oleocanthal, a compound shown to activate similar anti-inflammatory pathways as ibuprofen—without the same side effects.
One of the best things you can do for your health is to reduce inflammatory foods and fill your plate with anti-inflammatory ones.
