As some of you may or may not know, I've been studying towards becoming a Health Coach for the last 15 months. The even better news is, I'm at the final hurdle… so come autumn time this year, I will be offering various health coaching packages of which some will also include hands on therapy treatment options too.

I would in the meantime like to find out a little more information from you guys in order for me to provide you with right information you maybe looking for. So to that end, could you spare me 5 minutes of your time, I would be so grateful if you could complete the following Health and Wellness Questionnaire for me. Follow the link link below. Thank you

Mood foods…

Did you know that up to around 95% of our happy hormone ‘Serotonin’ is produced in the gut by an essential amino acid called ’tryptophan’… which we get from food?! Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, which has a very important role in the function of our mood, sleep, digestion, bone health and more.

Signs of inadequate levels of serotonin can present in many different ways, such as:

Low mood
Lack of concentration
Poor sleep
Depression
Chronic pain
Digestive issues

One of the best ways to boost our happy hormone levels to lift our mood (and support our gut health too) is to eat a healthy diet! I love salmon but there are many other foods you can have, such as beans, chickpeas, turkey, nut and seeds, whole grains, fermented foods such as kimchi and eggs.

Working from home… take it outside especially when the sun is shining 🌤

There are some great benefits:

💙 Promotes positive and happy feelings by boosting those happy hormones (dopamine, seratonin, endorphins)
💚 Lowers stress and blood pressure
💙 Increases productivity and creativity
💚 Increases vitamin D otherwise known as ‘the sunshine vitamin’, crucial for your immune system.
💙 and more …

Even taking regular breaks during the day to reboot the system makes a big difference 😉

I’m frequently asked, ‘your job is so physical, you must feel totally drained and achy by the end of the day?’

I’d be lying if I said no… on occasion yes, I do but this is very rare and purely down to me doing regular exercise which keeps my body strong, having lots of massage (oh yes this is a must… ensuring no issues with the tissues!) and having a good work life balance. I know my limits… if I go over and above what I would do normally, my body starts to fatigue and say No!

It doesn’t matter if you have physical job, a desk job or a stay at home parent job… in order to function well every day we need to have good overall health and fitness, which then contributes to good wellbeing.

Exercise provides strength, flexibility and allows all our bodily systems to function in the way they should reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Exercise increases our energy levels, reduces stress and pain, helps with weight management, improves posture and bone health and so so much more.

I will always encourage my clients to exercise as it’s a great way to prevent any unnecessary pain or injury.

Exercise can be gentle such as daily walks, swimming, cycling or pilates to something more strenuous like running, weight training or spinning, but the trick is to get a good balance of three areas: cardio, strength and stretch to ensure optimal health and fitness. Too much of one e.g. vigorous exercise can cause strain on the body and prevents tissue repair and recovery!

There are so many resources out there: from group classes, the gym, the great outdoors to ZOOM… choose something you enjoy and make it fun!

Sentence of the day and I absolutely love this 👌

This is someone who spends many hours every day working from home on ZOOM but started to experience upper back and neck pain as a result.

It’s so important to listen to your body … if it starts to cause you discomfort you need to change your daily routine ensuring your physical wellbeing and not forgetting your mental wellbeing isn’t compromised ☺️

The landscapes change from day to day but this is one of my daily do things!

In the morning or evening it doesn’t really matter, it either prepares me for the day or it helps me wind down ☺️

Daily practices like this (including a walk round the local park or simply sitting in the garden) can help to lower stress, to switch off and also help towards a good nights sleep 🧡

Give it a go …

One of my favourite pastimes is sleep but if a don’t get a good nightly recharge I simply just don’t function as well the following day.

I have various sleep routines but one I can’t recommend more is regular massage sessions, a whole sequence of events unfold!

Massage not only lowers stress but then our happy hormone ‘Serotonin’ increases the production of ‘melatonin’ our sleepy hormone, which then in turn helps to improve sleep… happy nights 😴

Pure and simple we all need to drink up 💦

If you find drinking water a little boring, try adding a slice of fresh lemon, orange, cucumber or mix it up with your favourite fruits to make it a little more interesting 🍊🍎🍓🍋🫐🥒

70% of our body is made up of water and it’s one of the key nutrient’s we need to function properly.

Symptoms of:

Muscle and joint pain
Headaches
Constipation
Lack of urination
Fatigue
Dry skin
Thirst
Or even high blood pressure… could simply be down to the fact you're not getting enough water.

Make a point of filling a large bottle or jug and drinking through the day (or 6-8 glasses) aiming for 1.5-2 litres every day.

So keep hydrated 💦
