Happy Valentines Day, 💕We had a wonderful time with a Cream Tea —It was so lovely to see everyone together, chatting away and enjoying the warm, happy atmosphere.😊
People sometimes wonder why we celebrate Valentine’s Day in a nursing home: our residents have spent a long lifetime loving and caring for others — whether that is marriage, partners, children, friends and family, even strangers. That love is something we should always take time to celebrate .❤️

Grey, rainy days are made for a bit of colour 🌧️💐
This week’s flower arranging was a real mood-lifter — choosing bright blooms, mixing textures, and filling the room with that fresh, floral scent. It’s amazing how something so simple can shift the atmosphere: minds calmer, and plenty of conversation
Activities like this can genuinely support wellbeing — they encourage focus, creativity, gentle movement, and connection with others… and they leave us with something beautiful to enjoy. 💕😊

Valentine’s cookie decorating this afternoon, and it went down a treat — colourful icing, sprinkles everywhere and lots of conversation . 😍
We were glad visitors joined us, and we genuinely love encouraging residents’ loved ones to get involved. Sharing an activity together (and eating the results!) makes it even more special.😊

What a fabulous afternoon we've had thanks to Stephen Dunnett🎙️His music filled the room with such a wonderful atmosphere and it was lovely to see the residents, visitors and staff enjoy it, with dancing included. 💃🤩 Stephen always performs a brilliant set and this was no different with some well known some love songs included in honour of Valentines day, creating a real sense of emotion from fond memories.❤️

We enjoyed a lovely mix of crafting and conversation.🩷
Our residents made personalised placemats in preparation for their Valentines Day meal. Designing their own and some for other residents not present, making each one unique.
While we crafted, the conversation naturally turned to love and relationships, friendships and what really helps a relationship last. The advice was honest, funny, and very wise.. 💕

This afternoon we welcomed Daniil Magerov to Rusthall Lodge for a violin performance, and our residents really enjoyed it. He brought a great mix — classical pieces alongside a few well-known favourites and it kept us captivated. 🤩
Danniil’s set was a brilliant example of variety — traditional classical one moment, familiar the next. Thank you, Danniil. 🎻

Today we enjoyed a fabulous armchair travel session. A trip to Italy in honour of the Winter Olympics. 🇮🇹It was a real pleasure hearing residents stories and adventures from past visits — there was lots of reminiscing, laughter and conversation. We spent time looking through photos, listening to iconic Italian music, and learning a little history along the way, appreciating the culture from afar. 🤩
Even if they hadn't traveled there, our residents enjoyed listening to those that had. We all learnt something new about the history. A genuinely joyful session and another country scratched off our map of the world. 🩷

Thankyou to Olivia Grace Piperwho performed for us today and what a voice. 🎙️She sang a lovely mix of musical theatre favourites alongside some beautiful ballads from across the decades.It was one of those performances where everyone is properly absorbed while we listened. — with lots of smiles and some residents and staff singing along. 😍 Olivia kindly also performed in the corridor so that some of our residents could still appreciate a performance from their rooms. “ Music acts as a universal language for emotional relief “ Oliver Sacks

Dignity Action Day 💛
We’ve been chatting with residents about what dignity means to them — and the same themes came up: choice, respect, and being treated as an individual.
It was a really useful reminder that dignity is the everyday things: being listened to, having privacy, being asked what you’d prefer, and having your wishes taken seriously. The 2026 theme, “3 Little Deeds,” encourages small, practical acts of kindness—like a smile or a conversation—that can genuinely lift someone’s day.
Today we supported dignity in practice by facilitating our monthly residents meeting, where residents can openly share their needs, frustrations, and ideas, so we can respond and improve things in a way that matters to them. Supporting autonomy . Striving to improve.Dignity is a small word but one that has so many countless effects on all our lives.
