I’m currently sitting with my father (with advanced dementia) in the care home. It’s the last day of his respite care and he’s just tested positive for Covid.

I’ve sent my mother straight back home as she has blood cancer so her immune system is very vulnerable and I need to keep her safe.

It’s very difficult to get him to drink and even harder now he’s ill. He’s particularly discombobulated.

The Joint Emergency Team (JET) nurse checked him over and his temperature, pulse and oxygen levels are okay. But he is very sleepy and confused.

If he doesn’t drink he will have to he admitted to hospital for a drip, but I hear they have patients on beds in corridors. Wish us luck…

If you’re immuno compromised, it’s really important wear your mask to avoid catching some of the nasty viruses going around.

The number of patients in hospital with norovirus last week was almost triple the number during the same period last winter.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. If you catch it, make sure you rest and have plenty of fluids

If you are caring for someone with dementia at home, do you have the mental energy to use an app to monitor your own mental health?

My 82 year old mother is my father's primary carer and there's no way she has the nerves or the inclination to log in to another app.

It's not just that she can't cope with the never ending passwords and log ins – research shows that as we age, our mental ability to cope with the digital world declines.

Digital is so much less expensive to produce than print, and much more scalable, so businesses still seem to persist in ignoring that older people prefer print. So frustrating.

Researchers want to help support carers who look after family members.
