In April I accepted a charity place for the London Marathon with teenage Cancer Trust.
I've changed my approach to running and am following a training plan for the first time. While that's something that I'd happily do in the gym its very alien to me for running!
After a bit of research I've been following a HR based training plan from .

The loose theory being to build muscle endurance and CV fitness with a large proportion of Zone 2 based runs.
Go slow to go faster.

Well at the min I'm just feeling slower and a little worried about compromising total running distance...
BUT
It has allowed me to run more frequently without muscle soreness.

is now 15 weeks away and my training is building with intervals and mixed HR zone runs.

Anyone else using a for London or another run this summer? How are you finding it?

How did everyone get through blue Monday?
Did you book a holiday or plan a trip?
Maybe a new training goal?
Having had my own niggles I was so happy to be able to run pain free yesterday 😊😊
It can get overwhelming making new year resolutions, so I'm trying to be really specific and hopefully realistic with mine.
Wanting to bring my 5k time below 25mins again I decided to run as far as I could in 25 mins yesterday.
There's a bit of work to do, about 450m to be exact!

Building strength in the gym will by and large help improve alot of aches and pains.
Sometimes though, I see people trying to lift heavier than they appear capable of, or not quite getting a movement "right".
There is no perfect or one size fits all but some ideas to think about:

What are your goals - plan a programme that will help get you there ie how often, how much and what (sets/reps/load) you'll need to do.

Can you perform the WHOLE movement without additional weight? For example if you're wanting to build gluteal strength with a hip bridge, don't skimp on reaching full hip extension by lifting too heavy.

What does your prep/warm up look like? Maybe including some muscle activation/potentiation will help you get through your main lifts with improved quality reps or heavier.

Drop me a message if you're having any niggles with your gym programme or thinking about starting back after a while but not sure where to begin.

I've been a bit quiet on here, busy busy! I'm going to try and start a new habit of sharing some videos, so drop me a message if there's anything you'd find useful.
Today's focus is ankle mobility, inspired by the 40 000⁺ amazing marathon runners from last weekend's , and even more from the weekend prior.
Have a try of these simple stretches if your ankle or foot is feeling stiff.
Ankles can get stiff simply from lots of time on feet or running, after a sprain or fracture to name just a few reasons. Improving ankle mobility can have a good impact on pain and help recovery from ankle sprains, tendinopathies, knee, hip or lower back issues.
BUT please remember if you're not sure, want more advice or you have a new or persistent injury that isn't settling like you'd hoped, then get in touch for more information or to arrange physio assessment.

Hip Stability
A little snapshot of some hip/ pelvis rehab ideas.
The hip is an inherently stable joint through it’s bony structures. However, the thigh and hip muscles play crucial roles in improving joint position sense - this is the relationship between the hip with the pelvis and spine above, and the knee below it. Developing optimal movement control through these muscle groups can have a big impact on return to performance after injury, but also on keeping you pain / injury free whatever your sport or activity level might be.
