A few maths practical tips ready for exam season!!
1. Whatever scientific calculator you are using now… don’t change it!!! With the mixture of old and new Casio calculators being used at the moment it is really important that your child is used to the one they have. The new style ones are very different to the old ones so your child’s gcse exam is not the time to swap around!!!
2. Speaking of calculators….. make sure it is in the correct setting. For gcse it needs to be in degrees setting. Typing Sin 30 and checking your answer is 1/2, will verify this.
3. Equipment… make sure the compass is a sturdy one and not going to go all over the place when it’s used. Also handy hint is to have a small pencil for it. It makes it much easier to use. A trip to Ikea might be useful 😊
4. A transparent ruler will make it much easier for drawing lines of best fit!
5. Lastly TRACING PAPER. Please ensure your child knows they can ask for it in their exams. I have spoken to a number of students over the last few weeks who have been too worried to put their hand up and ask. It is allowed and helps massively for the Transformation questions.
