There are such profound statements in this podcast! Recovery from trauma isn't just about the horrific things we've been through, the things that nearly broke us... Yes, it's important to process the underlying trauma so that our nervous system, body and mind, and all our parts, can learn a new way of being without being triggered and instantly hijacked by flashbacks, emotionally, physically, visually or in whatever form they come...
But it's equally important to be curious about who you are underneath all the trauma, the protective behaviours, beliefs and habits that kept us safe and kept us going... To be able to pause and feel safe enough to explore what we like, to explore things that bring us joy. Maybe something very little to begin with, just a flicker of joy, fleeting as it is, a little seed that we can plant in our memory garden, something to start building a balance between the horrible past, the here and now, that often is still filled with hardness and struggles, and things we want to invite into our life for the future... And because it's so hard to even believe that it's possible we need to start small...

As Carolyn Spring - Reversing Adversity says in this podcast:
'So recovery from trauma isn’t just about dealing with the difficult stuff. It’s also about building something positive in your life, and in many ways I think that can be the hardest thing to do. Because we’ve been conditioned to life being awful. That’s what we’re used to. It’s hard to want anything nice, because we’ve been programmed to fear that it’ll be taken away, or that it’s only really a prelude to something bad happening...'

But each time we find something nice, something joyful it adds to the new you... Because we are all so much more than the trauma that happened to us! ✨🫶🪷

How on earth can we begin to enjoy life after chronic childhood ? My stumbling block wasn't just trauma symptoms. It was having a fundamental issue with who I was: being utterly ashamed of myself.

ℹ️🌿 LEARNING TO LIVE WITH MAJOR DEPRESSION |

Depression is a common ailment in our ever more complicated world. You feel down and may weep for a few days until whatever triggered your depression is somewhat reconciled, and you move on.

This is not the case with major depressive disorder (MDD). People who have MDD are not able to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps and simply move on because they are suffering from a disorder that needs treatment.

This article will explore what major depression is, how it affects your body, the co-occurring diagnoses, including complex post-traumatic stress disorder, and ways to deal with it when major depression flares.

The sheer aloneness of trauma – both at the time and afterwards – is what makes it so hard to recover without adequate support. Find out more on this podcast at www.carolynspring/podcasts or on Spotify ('Conversations with Carolyn Spring').

This class is for anybody living with dissociative identities. It's a unique mix of yoga, mindfulness and other trauma informed somatic practices that I've come across over the years on my own healing journey as well as with my clients.

I offer a safe enough space for yous to connect with your body from the safety of your own home. It can often be very difficult to attend a regular yoga or exercise class when there are many in one body. Agreement of what's needed or wanted isn't always easy or clear...
This class is about choice and empowerment. Yous only do what feels good and safe for all of yous. There is no right or wrong way of being in this class. I will be offering lots of variations for each practice, and the pace is slow to allow time for noticing what feels good.

This is not a therapy or support group. It's a class for systems who already have an understanding of their system, inner communication, system responsibility and accountability, self-care and support in case of being triggered, and some experience of yoga or movement based practices to ensure your safety when connecting with your body.

Upcoming 6 week class starts 6.01-10.02.2026
£60 for the term

Get in touch for a free chat to check out if this is for yous or visit my website for more information...

For those of you who are at the beginning of finding out about their dissociative system, or who are struggling to connect with your body, I also offer 1-2-1 Somatic Therapy sessions in person and online.

This is why there isn't a straight forward answer to how I work....
It all depends on the clients needs, and sometimes it includes trial and error for a while to figure out what the right approach is. Most importantly trauma work is about the relational aspects between client and therapist and the feeling of safety within this relationship. Once that is established we figure out together what work can be done and how... ❤️‍🩹

We often assume “processing trauma” looks the same for everyone: sit in therapy, talk it through, feel the emotions. But for many people, simply remembering can reopen the wound.

When the body doesn’t yet feel safe, the brain can’t tell the difference between past and present. The amygdala fires, stress hormones surge, and you’re no longer remembering - you’re reliving.

That’s why trauma processing has to be personalized.
Some people need to start with somatic work to bring the body out of survival mode.

Others need modalities like EMDR, parts-oriented therapy, or neurofeedback to help the brain safely rewire the memory.

Healing isn’t about forcing yourself to “face it.” It’s about creating the safety and support that allow your system to integrate it.

Because when your body no longer treats the memory as a threat - that’s when remembering becomes rewiring and healing begins.
