I wonder how many of you can relate to wearing that mask each day, until the moment comes when, at last, someone takes time to sit beside you to offer their care and empathy 🩵

Today I said “I’m fine”, not once
But five times altogether
When people asked “how are you?”
Then made small talk of the weather

And so I hid behind my mask
The one I’d worn a while
I set in place my bravest face
And dressed it with a smile

And that was how the day went
All “I’m fine” and talk of rain
Until somebody asked me how I was
Then asked again

They asked if I was truly fine
And I said I was not
And they said they were sorry
That they couldn’t do a lot

But then they sat beside me
Whilst I spoke the truth at last
They listened and they held me
As the tears slipped through my mask

And where before, I’d felt I should
Maintain this brave façade,
I realised there was much to gain
By letting down my guard

See, though my load was still the same
It now was not as heavy
‘Cause sitting and offloading it
Had helped a bit already

Today they asked “how are you?”
And I told them I was fine
‘Til someone saw behind the mask
And asked me one more time

And though they may have felt
That there was little they could do
They’ll never know how much it meant
To tell someone the truth

Last night the sunset was breathtaking and I shared the encounter with another passer-by, who stopped to admire it in the same moment. It was quite a grounding experience, in a stressful week, to witness natural wonder and connect with another person in the midst of it 🩵

It's a year since I started practicing at Rugby Osteopathic & Sports Injury Centre on Fridays and Saturdays 🥳 I have felt so welcomed by the team and the time has flown by! I currently have some availability for Friday morning or fortnightly afternoon sessions. 🩵

I've felt a bit self-critical recently (unfortunately I'm not immune in this profession), so I've decided tomorrow is www.Thursday to try to re-set and catch up with myself:

Like everyone else, I go day-to-day juggling lots of different priorities and get lost in the mix; or I waste opportunities to be productive because I'm surrounded by distractions. I need to be on top of these things to feel satisfied in myself and achieve the things I want, but I de-prioritise them and end up feeling bad about myself for not doing them. I believe, when we acknowledge our challenges - whatever they may be - without beating ourselves up or being shamed by others, it helps us to see a way through.

So, now I have a plan 🩵

* photo because it was the closest I could offer for "light at the end of the tunnel" and because this lovely walk also helped offer me a fresh perspective 🩵

I can’t remember if I’ve ever shared this little quote here before, but I always think it’s a good reminder anyway.

In this line of work I firmly believe there is always hope. However, there was a month this year when I just couldn't see that for myself - someone I loved was very poorly and I had no control or ability to change the situation. I was scared and powerless. Those dark days actually meant that change was just around the corner and things became better than they ever had been.

This time of year can be full of joy and love, but sometimes it can feel like the bleakest, longest, loneliest time. Dig deep and find the courage to stay hopeful - sometimes the darkest times can bring the greatest opportunities.

Wishing you all peace and wellbeing for the year ahead 🩵

Today marks one year of being in private practice 🩵🥳

Although I had been working with clients for a considerable time before taking the leap, it was quite daunting this time last year and I had to pluck up the courage and confidence to believe in myself and make it work.

I consider this work a privilege and I'm so grateful to my clients for their trust in me and my family, friends and peers for their support - THANK YOU 🩵

* and a special shout-out to this one who brings me my slippers and comes for a cuddle after a long day 🐕
