It's Children’s Mental Health Week 💛💙

At Waves Music Therapy, we create spaces for children to feel safe, seen and heard without pressure to explain or perform.

Children’s mental health matters. Not later. Now. 

Which is why we are proud of our mission to remove barriers to access. We want to ensure those who need and can benefit from music therapy can access it, when they need it, where they need it. Over 91% of our sessions last year were delivered at no cost to our beneficiaries. We work in accessible, community spaces so that we can truly meet needs, and as we grow we are focused on reaching more children. Because music therapy works, and children's mental health matters.

"I think I’ll remember all of it forever. I don’t think I could pick one moment.”

This reflection came from one of our brilliant Nescot College Creative Media students following our music workshop on Friday. We're partnering with students across the year to produce 5 short films that capture our work through young people’s lens.

Friday's workshop will form the 2nd film in the series. Working to a live client brief, students captured original footage, vlogs, interviews and reflections, creating their experience of the transformative power of music, all while building portfolios and meaningful, real-world experience from an enthusiastic client!

Creative Media lecturer Ben Lewis shared: “I don’t think in my last two-and-a-bit years at NESCOT I have witnessed such a special few hours inside a classroom. We have had many partnerships as a department, but I believe this will produce some of the best work our students have created.”

The 5 films will be launched at a special showcase in June, celebrating a portfolio of student work with real-life impact for our charity. Huge thanks to the students, to Ben, to for the awesome workshop, Matthew Lonsdale and for the partnership, and to , whose support makes these workshops

We’re super excited to share that Waves Music Therapy has been awarded funding for the next four years! 🎉 🌊

This is a significant milestone for our charity. Long-term funding allows us to plan with more confidence, strengthen delivery and continue offering accessible, relationship-led music therapy to people with complex needs across our communities.

At a time when services are under increasing pressure and waiting lists continue to grow, this funding means we can keep supporting and meeting people when they need us, where they need us.

We love that out of the National Lottery game, real community impact happens- a win for everyone. Our huge thanks to the National Lottery team, we're looking forward to working with you! 🌊🎶

We’re pleased to host MA placements for trainee music therapists, offering opportunities in real-life settings for the next generation of clinicians. Placements enable us to offer carefully supervised sessions to more young people and are rich experiences for our therapist hosts. Our huge thanks to James for all his hard work.

It's Grief Awareness Week, and at Waves we support bereaved children, young people and those with complex needs who come to us because music offers a safe, gentle way to explore feelings in their own time, without needing to find the words.
We are pleased to offer a space where people can share how they are and have someone walk alongside them, with music supporting that journey for as long as they need.
