Back pain doesn’t usually “just go away.” It often gets worse quietly.

Most people wait months before seeking help — and by then recovery takes longer than it needed to.

Recently, one of our patients came to us struggling to sit at work without discomfort. Within six weeks of targeted treatment and guided rehab, they were back to full movement — pain-free.

Every recovery plan at Physio Care is tailored to you.

No generic exercises. No rushed appointments.

If you’re:
• Waking up stiff
• Avoiding certain movements
• Struggling at your desk
• Or relying on painkillers

It’s time to take action.

Differences between Stimpod and TENS Machines?

We’re often asked whether Stimpod is the same as a TENS machine.

While both involve electrical stimulation, they are not the same.

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) typically delivers low-voltage electrical currents through surface electrodes to help reduce pain signals temporarily.

Stimpod delivers pulsed radiofrequency stimulation designed to influence nerve signalling at a deeper level, with the aim of modulating irritated or hypersensitive nerves.

Importantly, Stimpod is used following a clinical assessment to determine whether nerve irritation is contributing to symptoms.

If you’re unsure whether nerve involvement is part of your pain, an assessment can help clarify.

Currently we are offering a FREE 10-Minute Stimpod Therapy Trial

Only 20 spaces available.

Care Homes: Early Intervention Matters.

In care settings, small mobility changes can quickly lead to bigger issues.

Reduced walking confidence, slower transfers, or subtle balance changes may increase fall risk and reduce independence.

Early physiotherapy input can help:

• Maintain strength and balance
• Support post-hospital rehabilitation
• Reduce fall risk factors
• Improve confidence in daily mobility

Proactive intervention supports both residents and staff, helping maintain independence for as long as possible.

If you’re a care home on the Island seeking specialist physiotherapy support, we’re here to help.

Myth: Rest Is Always Best.

Being told to “just rest” can feel reassuring — but for many musculoskeletal conditions, prolonged rest is not the solution.

Extended inactivity can lead to:

• Reduced joint mobility
• Muscle weakness
• Deconditioning
• Increased stiffness

Appropriate, guided movement helps tissues heal, improves circulation, and restores strength.

The key word is appropriate.

The right type and amount of movement depends on the individual and the condition.

Rest has its place — but structured rehabilitation is often what leads to real recovery.

When Pain “Moves”.

Does your pain seem to travel?

For example:

• Lower back pain that spreads into the hip or leg
• Neck pain that runs into the shoulder or arm

This is often referred pain — commonly linked to joint irritation or nerve sensitivity.

Nerves can transmit pain signals along their pathway, which is why the area that hurts isn’t always the true source of the problem.

A detailed assessment helps determine whether the pain is muscular, joint-related, or nerve-driven — so treatment is targeted correctly.

Understanding the source is the first step towards lasting improvement.

The Pain Ladder.

Most people don’t seek help straight away. The pattern often looks like this:

1. Ignore it
2. Reduce activity
3. Try painkillers
4. Stop doing hobbies
5. Finally seek treatment

The difficulty is that reduced movement can lead to stiffness, muscle weakness and further loss of function — which can make recovery slower.

Early assessment allows us to identify the cause and guide appropriate rehabilitation before the problem becomes more limiting.

If pain is already changing how you live, it’s time to step off the ladder.

3 Signs It’s Not “Just Age”

Pain is often blamed on ageing — but persistent pain is not an inevitable part of getting older.

Here are three signs your symptoms may need proper assessment:

• Pain lasting longer than 6 weeks
• Pain that spreads (for example, from your back into your leg)
• Numbness, tingling or increasing weakness

While joints and tissues naturally change over time, ongoing pain usually has an underlying mechanical or neurological cause that can be addressed with targeted physiotherapy.

Ageing is normal. Persistent pain isn’t something you simply have to accept.

LIVING WITH PAIN SHOULDN’T BE NORMAL

Living with pain has a way of becoming accepted.
You adjust how you move, what you do, and what you avoid — often without realising how much you’re compensating.

But ongoing pain isn’t something you’re meant to put up with.
Support is available, and it doesn’t have to involve long waits.

At PhysioCare, many people are seen quickly — and often start moving more comfortably within 48 hours of beginning treatment.

Physiotherapy focuses on understanding what’s driving your pain and supporting your body to move better, sooner — not just managing symptoms and hoping for the best.

You don’t need to wait for pain to worsen before doing something about it.
Living well starts with moving well.

What’s causing your back pain?

Back pain is rarely caused by one single issue.
It’s often the result of posture, movement habits, muscle imbalance, previous injury, or the way your body adapts to daily demands over time.

That’s why rest alone doesn’t always solve it — the underlying cause may still be there.

Physiotherapy looks at how your body moves as a whole, not just where it hurts. By understanding what’s contributing to your pain, treatment can be tailored to support recovery and reduce the chance of it returning.

Back pain doesn’t have to be something you simply live with.
Understanding the cause is often the first step toward lasting relief.

Shockwave therapy.

Shockwave therapy is a treatment used to support healing in long-standing or stubborn pain — especially when other approaches haven’t fully helped.

It works by delivering controlled sound waves to the affected area. These waves stimulate blood flow and trigger the body’s natural repair processes, helping tissue heal more effectively over time.

Shockwave therapy is often used for conditions such as:
Persistent tendon pain
Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
Shoulder pain (including calcific tendinopathy)
Long-term muscle and soft-tissue injuries

Treatment sessions are usually short and are combined with physiotherapy — not used in isolation. That’s important, because while shockwave can stimulate healing, movement, strength and load management are what support long-term results.

It isn’t a quick fix, and it isn’t suitable for everyone.
That’s why a proper assessment matters.

When used for the right condition, at the right stage, shockwave therapy can be a helpful part of a wider recovery plan — especially for pain that hasn’t settled with rest alone.
