A client in her late 40’s scared of life has a dream. She is looking after a baby… she wasn’t aware she had been pregnant. The baby needs feeding so she holds it to her left breast but she’s producing no milk so she puts the baby gently down and plans to go to buy it food before it cries. She feels sad she has nothing to give the baby to nourish it. A man is pulling at her clothes seeking her attention. As much as she acknowledges him and explains about the need to feed her child, he persists. Another man rings her doorbell again wanting something from her in a sense of urgency. She knows the baby must be fed and feels torn….She wakes up… unsettled… unsure what is going on. This is not a dream about any masculine figure in her outer world. She’s happily married with kids just off to universities. It speaks far more about her own internal process. She worked as a doctor for many years. She came to me feeling pulled, discombobulated. Menopause, midlife questions looking for meaning beyond mothering and her caring profession. Her dream is showing new life - a baby - she’s not even aware was coming forward… was there…but here it is birthing through her subconscious into her dreams and into her consciousness through our work together. It needs food… nurturing… time… sustenance from her…. She holds it to her left breast … she has no milk (left side of body = right side of her mind - her creativity)… the well is dry… are we surprised from her years of analytical left brain study and work and her mothering out. The two masculine energies wanting her attention/stopping her feeding her creativity are symbols of her intellectual rational mind… they want action… they don’t hear the needs of the newly born instinctual creative self. Our work together helps her integrate these disparate selves, brings them on board working together as she ventures forward into a whole new realm of creative projects and making from nothing…. She literally starts to feed the undernourished starving baby and her dreams become less conflicting, her imagination is left to dream as she starts to develop other more creative aspects of her psyche… there is wonderment..excitement
