Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin for strong bones and overall health. Adequate levels are crucial for maintaining bone density and absorbing calcium, thus reducing the risk against fractures and osteoporosis.

However with vitamin D deficiency, bones become fragile, accompanied by symptoms such as muscle weakness, fatigue, and bone pain, signaling increased risk of fractures and bone-related issues.

Additionally, emerging evidence suggests that low levels of Vitamin D can also impact mental health, contributing to mood disorders like depression and anxiety.

There has always been evidence to show that strength training can reduce the risk of particular injuries. Strength training also enhances your quality of life and improves your ability to do everyday physical activities and sports performance.

Strength training can also protect from injury and maintain your joint health. Building strength can help to contribute to better balance and stability which could help to reduce your risks of falls, in turn helping you to maintain your independence as you age.

Benefits of strength training may include, and are not limited to: better cardiovascular health, improved mood due to serotonin and endorphin releases, increased energy levels, better flexibility and mobility, helps your immune system by boosting the function of your mitochondria cells and improves bone health by stimulating your osteoblast and osteoclast cells.

It is important to have a varied exercise routine that works for you as an individual. If you would like to book an appointment regarding an injury or would like to discuss personalised exercises and nutritional advise as part of your individual treatment plan, Richard and Tom will be more than happy to help you. Please contact us today for further information.

Here at Richard Hibbs | Rye Osteopathy we commonly see patients presenting Achilles injuries.

Achilles injuries can quickly become chronic issues, so treating them and rehabilitating them quickly is key.

Your Achilles tendon is commonly injured due to a traumatic event, however it can develop into a problem over time due to health and lifestyle choices.

An extreme Achilles injury is a rupture of the tendon which often requires surgical intervention alongside rehabilitation and treatment. One of most common complaints is Tendinitis that if left untreated will become a chronic Tendinopathy.

Our treatment plans here are aimed at reducing your pain and improving your mobility with treatment. We have a range of techniques and treatment types available to us to help speed up your recovery which include Osteopathy, Sports Massage, Acupuncture and Shockwave Therapy.

We will then guide you and encourage you to strengthen and rehabilitate for long term management and relief.

If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment please contact us today.

What can we treat?

Osteopaths can treat a range of acute and chronic conditions. We use a combination of manual techniques to decrease pain and improve function alongside, other treatment modalities such as Shockwave Therapy which is effective in treating more chronic injuries such as Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendinopathy or Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) such as Tennis Elbow.

We also use Acupuncture (dry needling) which can complement both Osteopathy and Shockwave Therapy.

With most conditions movement and strength is vital, we encourage and provide rehabilitation exercises and pre-habilitation exercises to manage your condition better.

Features of inflammation

Inflammation is painful! But it is essential for healing.

When your body is irritated or damaged, inflammation kicks in. Your body starts repairing at a cellular level - chemical mediators such as substance P, bradykinin and prostaglandins are all attracted to the area of pain to repair and clear damaged tissue.

Your body is continuously maintaining a state of homeostasis which involves this process.

Pain and inflammation can affect our ability to move and reduce our confidence in achieving tasks or exercises. If inflammation is not addressed and treated, it can progress into chronic pain which is much harder to relieve.

Please contact us for further advice or to book an appointment.
