Fed up of suffering from constant colds or allergies/hayfever?

Here are some top tips to BOOST your IMMUNE SYSTEM:

1. Get enough sleep and manage stress. Sleep deprivation and stress overload increase the hormone cortisol, which over time suppresses our immune function.

2. Avoid to***co smoke. It undermines basic immune defenses and raises the risk of chest infections

3. Drink less alcohol. Excessive consumption impairs the immune system

4. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, which will provide your body with the essential nutrients for your immune system. Key foods include citrus fruits, red bell peppers, broccoli, garlic, ginger, spinach yoghurt, tumeric, sunflower seeds.. Try to incorporate them into your diet!! Skiing... refreshing for the mind and body!

We often forget to stay hydrated when we are skiing!

Reasons for dehydration-

1. High altitude and the cold weather curbs our thirst drive so we drink less naturally

2. Drinking lots of hot caffineated drinks such as tea and coffee and also alcohol act as diuretics which means we lose more water

3. Skiing for hours on end with no breaks which means we again can go a whole day without water

Dehydration leads to:

*Fatigue
- muscles become tired due to reduced blood flow
- your heart needs to pump harder keep the blood flow up to the organs and muscles

*Cold hands and fingers - body loses its ability to regulate body temperature as well and reduces blood flow to the extremities such as fingers and toes

So stay hydrated and you will enjoy your skiing even more!!! :)
