🔴 Piriformis syndrome causes pain or numbness in your glutes, hip or upper leg.
🔴 It occurs when the piriformis muscle presses on the sciatic nerve. 🔴 The condition may be caused by injury, swelling, muscle spasms or scar tissue in the piriformis.

2️⃣ are you getting enough Zone 2 training in?

2️⃣ One of the easiest gains I've found when coaching athletes who haven't had a structured plan is to slow them down for a large portion of their endurance training.

2️⃣ People often don't believe the saying 'go slow to go faster' but I've seen this work and give huge gains to dozens of triathletes, cyclists and runners.

2️⃣ Zone 2 training makes you faster by:

❤️ Building a superior aerobic base, increasing mitochondrial density, and improving fat oxidation.

❤️ This allows athletes to sustain higher power outputs for longer durations, improves lactate clearance, and enables harder, more frequent training sessions without burnout

🏃‍♂️ Spring marathon coming up?

🏋️‍♂️ Are you strength training to support your running sessions?

💪 Strength training helps to protect from injuries AND will help you gain speed and endurance over long course running and racing.

✴️ You need to be including:

🦵Compound movements such as squatting and hip hinging (back squats and deadlifts are the most commonly form of these).

🦵 Functional unilaterally movements like walking lunges and steps ups, as well as some core upper body work.

❤️ So with the new branding in full flow I thought it was a good time to post a little bit about myself and Red alert PT.

💜 I am from the North East of England but moved to Hertfordshire in 2010. I currently live in St. Albans with my husband Mark, my son Charlie and my two dogs, Ginger and Myrtle.

💙 Prior to setting up Red alert PT, I was a scientist working in the commercial side of immunodiagnostics. I have a PhD in molecular biology and a degree in biomedical sciences.

🩷 Those who I work with know that I coach and train like a scientist - I love stats and hard facts and spend a lot of time researching new developments and techniques to help my athletes be the best they can be at their chosen sport.

❤️ When I am not working, dog walking or doing any kind of sporting activity I’m usually chilling out with my family - but who am I kidding, if I'm not working or doing sports that usually means I'm asleep!

💜 I live to train, and compete, and my family (lucky for me) take part in just as many crazy sports and challenges as I do, so if im not doing, i’m supporting one of them!

🥋 The first sport I took seriously was Martial arts training. I achieved my black belt in kickboxing in my 20's, and I am currently working toward my black belt in Shotokan karate with my son Charlie, and my husband Mark.

🚵 After kickboxing, I then competed all across the UK in downhill mountain biking, where I gained several podium places at races in Wales and England.

🏊🚲 🏃 I then left the body armour and mountains behind me and turned to triathlon where I have multiple Ironman finishes and competed as a GBR age group athlete at several European Championship races.

🏋️ Currently I train in functional fitness to allow me to compete at CrossFit, Hyrox, AthX and athletics events.

🗓️in 2026, i turn 50 and I have ‘50 for 50 challenges’ that i am slowly ticking off!
