Choosing a funeral director is important, but what should you consider when deciding?

Pricing: Cost can often be a factor when choosing services. Prices do vary, so be sure to do some research. All funeral directors should display their pricing at their premises and on their website. Deciding on the most expensive business doesn’t always mean you are getting the best service; equally, just because something is cheap doesn’t guarantee it is value for money. It’s best to ask questions and compare services.

At Paul Bourton Funeral Service we price ourselves competitively with the other local independent funeral directors. Our services start from £1,195. An itemised estimate is always provided prior to the day of the service. We are always happy to discuss your wishes and provide you with all of the information you need. You can rest assured that you will receive a personal, professional, well organised and competitively priced service from us.

Choosing a funeral director is important, but what should you consider when deciding?

Reviews: A company doesn’t need to spend thousands of pounds on advertising if their service sells itself. Choose a funeral director with great reviews, a service that people talk about and recommend from their own experiences.

Our feedback speaks for itself. We are the most reviewed funeral director in St Austell on Facebook and Google, with consistent 5 star reviews and some really lovely feedback from many of the families we have had the privilege of looking after. We don't spend thousands of pounds on advertising our services, instead we rely on word of mouth, sharing of positive experiences and the way we conduct ourselves at services. We very often hear that families have chosen us due to the way we handled previous services that they attended.

Choosing a funeral director is important, but what should you consider when deciding?

A reliable team: From attending services, you meet the staff/ team members. Choose the ones that look after you, guide you and carry out their roles to the highest standard.

We have a great team of trained operatives, with an age range of almost 50 years. Many of our team members joined the team after we looked after one of their own loved ones. We are well respected and known for the high standards set originally by Paul Bourton, which we continue to pride ourselves on. People often remark on our bearing teams and high attention to detail.

Choosing a funeral director is important, but what should you consider when deciding?

Local knowledge: A local person will know the area, clergy, churches, celebrants, crematoriums and cemeteries, helping with the planning process and carrying out your wishes to the highest standard.

Both of our funeral directors were born and raised in the local area and are well known within the local community. All of our employees are local people, with local families, from a variety of different backgrounds and have a wealth of experience and local knowledge.

Choosing a funeral director is important, but what should you consider when deciding?

Professional service: A funeral director who has been working within the funeral profession for many years will have all the contacts and knowledge needed to make the planning process seamless, and will guide you through everything that is required, taking away the stress and strain.

Our two funeral directors are knowledgeable, yet comparatively young, with a combined experience of 26 years within the funeral industry. They will guide and support you throughout. Paul ensured that his expertise was passed down to the next generation, allowing them to make the changes necessary to bring the business forward. We have a female and a male funeral director. If you’d prefer one over the other, please ask - we won’t be offended.

Choosing a funeral director is important, but what should you consider when deciding?

A name you can trust: Be careful here, as many names within the funeral industry can be misleading, as the original trusted business has been bought by someone else (often a large conglomerate). Ensure you are getting who you really want.

Paul Bourton Funeral Service was set up by Paul and Sally Bourton in 1995, and (although Paul is now retired) is still very much a family owned, managed and run business, with their daughter, Stacey, as funeral director and business partner.
