Got a confession to make.

Every year on Boxing Day for the past 4 years we’ve been going to the beach with the dogs.

Not this time 😲

This year it didn’t sit right with both of us.

1+ hours of driving for about 50 mins being there and 1+ hours driving back. Not a very good use of our time off.

Instead we went for a walk locally. Drove 20 mins and did just over 5 miles of walking.

It was absolutely lovely.

Dogs had fun (they’d have fun regardless 😅). Us humans had more fun.

The weather and the views were beautiful.

And we got more time to spend with family today.

Plans change, and that’s ok!

This time of year is super weird. Don’t put any pressure on yourself. Don’t overthink. Just be. Just do what’s right for you.

Go into this week with a PLAN to do a few positive things with your habits.

But don’t expect to be perfect. You will be tempted by that crappy tray of quality street! And that’s ok 😊

You keeping one eye on the positive will help you avoid going into January feels tonnes worse 👍🏻🖤

Next week at Apex… 🖤💪🏻

We’ve just finished our programme cycle within the gym and are now going into a couple of transition weeks before January properly kicks off week commencing 5th Jan!

There’s been some awesome energy, tonnes of new PB’s and so many people improving their form across all movements.

And it makes a logical next step to have a couple weeks where we throw different movements, some new some unfamiliar, to get the body doing something different!

Our ethos has always been to make movement awesome for everyone, improving mobility, flexibility and strength in all planes of motion.

So, effectively, you can live life easier 🙌🏼

So who knows what we’re going to see over the next few! Enjoy 😅

And as part of this mental transition period in the year, it’s our job as a coaching team to provide everyone within the gym support, structure and motivation when things are trying their best to pull you off track.

YES. Enjoy Christmas. But we’re here to help you navigate that if you’d love to hold onto any shred of normality.

There are days where everything flows and feels easier than the last…

Where the gym isn’t a second thought…

Where resting temptation is a little easier… 🙏

And there are always days where you consider driving past the gym on your way home from work…

Or lying in bed when it’s cold, dark and wet…

Or maybe in the moment the gym feels like an inconvenience… 😢

I’m here to let you know this is completely normal.

This morning I tore with myself for 30 mins after I was meant to leave for the gym to train. Trying to find a way to talk myself out of it.

To be comfy on the couch watching YouTube before I slink off to do my work I needed to do.

But thankfully, the practice I developed of recognising that behaviour when It happens… and catching my thoughts of choosing comfort over doing what I said… Allowed me to just pick myself up, put my shoes on and before I know it I’m driving to the gym.

That’s the moment to switch it and do what you said you were going to do.

Unless you’re ill, you ALWAYS feel better.

This took literal years to build this, and you won’t always get it right, but noticing it is the first hard bit.

So next time you catch yourself in these moments of talking yourself out of doing the work remember this…

That is the version of you who craves comfort, security and short term gratification fighting with the version of you who wants progress, growth and feeling better long-term.

Choose long-term. Choose the work. Build that resilience.

You’ll always come out on top making that decision.

Just keep going regardless of what your mood tells you to do.
