The nutrition seminar today was incredible.

It’s a genuine honour to have trust out in us to help you through this challenging topic - especially when fear is a huge thing around this!

At the end of the day it’s vitally important to have a client-first approach to everything we do.

If your coach or gym doesn’t take into account your lifestyle when talking around this topic, they’re not thinking of you first.

Gone are the days of a one-size fits all nutrition or exercise plan for an individual.

That is if you want the best chance of success long term.

It warms my heart the numerous conversations with clients today who say our space is just nothing else ever seen before in the ‘gym’ world.

The support. The consideration. The care. And the empathy.

Hopefully that gives a flavour of how we work 🖤🥰

How this fish summed up my week… 😂🐟

The girl in Starbucks was taking an extra long time with the flat white today.

And to marvellous effect if I say so myself!!

And it got me thinking, why do I enjoy going to Starbucks?

Because when I don’t have to work in the gym I can get some focused hours somewhere that feels good.

I actually get a tonne of value from working at coffee shops!!

No distractions. Complete focus. And endless caffeine 🔥🙈

I truly believe this has close comparisons with gyms too. You sometimes just HAVE to be in an environment that serves you.

If I want to have my teeth checked, the dentist is most likely the answer.

If I want an environment dedicated to focus, a library may work just as well as a coffee shop - more so than home anyway for me…

And if you need help with your diet or exercise you have to ask yourself are you putting yourself in the right environment for it…?

If you’re not sticking out the process, the answer is probably: no - you may need to find a coach, group class or a PT.

Check your current habits what you do in your life - we all have habits that we enjoy because it serves a purpose you actually value.

Time to make the gym one of those! 😉

We’ve stayed true to our message since we opened our doors nearly 3.5 years ago… 🖤

Our job is to teach you how to be consistent. To change the approach of health and fitness for all those that have tried it before in a way that previously has just been unsustainable.

We don’t train bodybuilders wanting to workout 7 days a week.

We’ve never encouraged crash diets for losing 2 stone overnight.

We teach busy people - people with families, stressful jobs, crazy social lives, kids clubs, cooking dinners every night and simply trying to give their best energy to those around them, often before themselves.

Part of that process is being happy being consistent with the basics. 2-3 sessions a week. Improving your diet week in week out. Improving the habits in your lifestyle slowly.

But when things inevitably get boring… which they will. You’re continuing to stick this out because it works around your lifestyle.

So many people get taught you need to go hell for leather for 6 weeks. That ‘we all have the same 24 hours in the day’.

F& that haha! You just need to find a health and fitness routine in YOUR life that you CAN sustain.

Then you’ll get incredible lifelong results.

And that’s often boring. 😊

I often use to be called boring growing up. Turns out they were all right and I couldn’t be happier 😂😂😂😂

Never easy at this time of year, especially when the cars are frozen in the morning. When it’s still dark outside. When it’s SO much easy to drive past the gym.

But what we do in these hard months sets us up for how we feel in the summer!

We’re super lucky to have our team putting the work in to make Apex an incredible space.

We set out to change group training in gyms when we started Apex as we felt no one did it good.

Things like:

Coaches in other gyms always on their phones ‘leading sessions’.

Inconsistent classes being constantly cancelled.

Unwillingness to listen to feedback from members.

Gyms that feel intimidating and not fully listening to or understanding the person they’re actually trying to help.

And straight up clique atmospheres where the coaches interact with the long term members and ignore the newer ones.

We don’t even have mirrors on the gym floor because we understand that’s not what you need…

It’s not even an opinion, it’s the truth, there’s no room for that in a gym you pay money for.

We’re super lucky to have an awesome coaching and supporting team helping everyone feeling good from starting to becoming a long term member.

Building consistency in your exercise and health journey is achieved with a place you feel comfortable in and supports you as a human, whilst giving you the push when we know you can push.

‘No days off’ isn’t about an aggressive, all-out attitude to training everyday.

It means no matter how your day goes, do something positive that drives your life goals.

That everyday is an opportunity to do something positive.

That no matter what goes wrong, whether it’s a bad diet, a missed training session, a slip up.

That at your next opportunity there’s a chance to build on your positive habits.

This isn’t about 7 sessions a week. Or killing yourself in the gym.

It means taking responsibility to feel great every day.

Today we came together to remember Cerys. 🍒

Cerys was an incredible woman who helped improve so many of our members lives since she starting working out of our facility 2 and a half years ago.

I know she’s also impacted countless others in what she did at an amazing level in her business.

She was loved by many.

And she loved what she did with a deep passion and care.

I’ve genuinely never met anyone like Cerys.

There’s been 100’s of moments in the office at Apex where we’ve been cuddling our two dogs together, talking about her dog Scarlet, her family, and chatting about life and holidays.

She always brought an amazing energy to everything she did no matter how many late nights at ice hockey doing what she loved, or anything going on in her life.

And we always used to joke that she took great great joy in seeing people writhe when the acupuncture needles came out or the cups came out - she ultimately always knew it was going to help. 🥰

She lived and breathed helping people feel better.

Cerys was, and will always be, a huge part of our community and we’ll all miss her deeply.

The service this afternoon was amazing and was Cerys to the letter. I know a few people couldn’t make the service today who really would’ve wanted to.

So we’re sending all our love to Cerys and her family from Apex. 🖤🍒

Ever find yourself just waitinggg to go to the gym?

Or putting off that one hard thing in your day because just thinking about it feels heavy… overwhelming… draining?

It’s not laziness or a lack of commitment.

I feel this constantly too - and I coach in a gym for a living.

It’s just resistance.

The super heavy feeling that shows up before hard things.

Motivation won’t ever fix it.

Trying to “manifest energy” you don’t have won’t either.

What actually works is leverage.

For me, when I’m sat on the couch at 7am knowing I should already be heading to train, motivation isn’t ever enough.

But I do know this:

If I skip it, I don’t show up as my best self for my partner, my family, my team, or our clients.

I’m flat on energy. Much more reactive and far less present.

And I KNOW I’ll feel better after moving. I always do.

So the question I ask myself isn’t:

“Do I feel like doing this?”

It’s:

– Will dodging this make my day better or worse?
– Who else does this impact if I don’t show up?
– Will future me thank me for avoiding it… or facing it?

That’s leverage.

And once you build that habit, hard things stop feeling quite so heavy and you build that habit to embrace hard things head on.

The funny thing is…

When you finally do the thing you’ve been avoiding, it’s never as hard as your head made it out to be.

Whether that’s a gym session. Checking a bank statement or having a hard conversation.

The same rule applies.

Next week is week two of our 8 week cycle!

With January going into the cold, harder weeks where doubt and realisms start showing, consistency becomes more paramount - to keep doing what you can and keep turning up to the process you’ve just got going.

Whilst max weight on the bar isn’t our aim, it is our aim progress everything we were doing last week as long as it’s good form!!

So keep turning up, putting the work in and getting your sessions in!

We’ll also be putting on a nutrition seminar on Saturday 24th at 10am. This is free to all members and challengers!

Our aim with this is to give you more resources and support on this so you know exactly what to do at this time of year and also give you a focus to stay consistent and motivated.
