Deep Tissue Massage: Why It Helps (and Why It Can Hurt)
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension, knots, and tightness. It’s especially beneficial if you experience:
• Persistent muscle pain
• Stiffness or limited mobility
• Postural tension (hello desk life!)
• Recovery from physical strain
So… why does it sometimes hurt?
Unlike gentle relaxation massage, deep tissue works into areas where muscles are tight or inflamed. That pressure can feel intense because:
• Knots (adhesions) are being broken down
• Blood flow is increasing to restricted areas
• Your body is releasing built-up tension
After your session, you may feel a bit tender, but also looser, lighter, and more mobile.
Your body might resist the process at first—but it will thank you later 🤎
