๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿง  The importance of being a Dementia Friend

Dementia touches more lives than many people realise. In the UK alone, around 1 million people are living with dementia, and this number is expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040.

But the impact goes far beyond the individual. Families, friends and carers are all affected. One in three people will care for someone with dementia during their lifetime, and more than half of us know someone living with the condition.

Becoming a Dementia Friend is about understanding, recognising the challenges people may face, showing patience, and offering support in everyday moments. Small actions, whether itโ€™s a kind word, a helping hand or simply taking the time to listen, can make a huge difference.

At Care UK Salisbury Manor, we see every day how awareness, compassion and connection can improve quality of life. Creating dementia-friendly environments and communities helps people feel safe, valued and included.

Because dementia isnโ€™t just a health condition, itโ€™s a shared human experience that calls for empathy, understanding and support from us all.

Become a Dementia Friend. Learn more about what it is like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action.

๐Ÿงถโ˜•๐Ÿ’ฌ Knit, natter and a cuppa at Care UK Salisbury Manor

Our regular catch-up with the Crafty Girls is always a highlight, bringing residents together for knitting, conversation and, of course, a well-earned cup of tea.

Knitting is such a meaningful activity. The gentle, repetitive motion can be incredibly calming, helping to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. It also supports fine motor skills, concentration and a sense of purpose, especially when working towards something tangible.

Just as importantly, the social side brings people together, encouraging conversation, laughter and connection. These shared moments help build friendships and create a real sense of community.

A simple combination of creativity, companionship and a cuppaโ€ฆ sometimes thatโ€™s all you need. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿฅฆ Getting creative in unexpected ways at Salisbury Manor!

Who knew broccoli could make such beautiful art!!

Our residents had great fun experimenting with painting using broccoli, creating unique patterns and colourful designs.

Activities like this are more than just creative they form an important part of art therapy. Using different textures and techniques can help stimulate the senses, encourage self-expression and support cognitive engagement, particularly for those living with dementia.

Art therapy also promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety and provides a wonderful sense of achievement.

A little creativity, a lot of smiles, and proof that inspiration can come from anywhere! ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿงถ๐Ÿ’› From knit one, purl oneโ€ฆ to something truly special

Our wonderful Crafty Girls of Salisbury, UK have been supporting residents at Salisbury Manor with regular knitting sessions, creating square by square over the past few months.

Those individual pieces have now been carefully brought together to form beautiful blankets - each one made with time, care and kindness.

Weโ€™re delighted that these blankets have now been donated to the maternity unit at Salisbury Hospital, offering comfort to new mums and babies. ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿ’›

A lovely example of community, creativity and giving back , proving that small stitches can make a big difference.

๐ŸŒฟ Reflecting on a personal and meaningful farewell at Salisbury Manor ๐ŸŒฟ

The nature of life within a care home means that saying goodbye is something we experience, and each time it is deeply personal. Every resident becomes part of our community, our daily lives and our hearts.

Recently, we said farewell to one of our veterans, who passed very peacefully. We were truly grateful to have the support and comfort of Padre Mark Christian, whose presence brought reassurance not only to our resident, but also to their loved ones and the team around them.

Moments like these remind us of the importance of dignity, compassion and being surrounded by care at the end of life. It is a privilege to support individuals through their final journey, offering comfort, respect and kindness every step of the way.

Loss is always felt deeply, not only by families but also by the staff who have built meaningful relationships and shared in everyday moments. We take time to reflect, to support one another, and to honour the lives and memories of those we have cared for.

Our thoughts remain with the family. ๐Ÿ’›

Special moments shared at Salisbury Manor

It was a pleasure to see three of our residents, joined by their wives, enjoying a beautiful afternoon tea together with bright daffodils on the table and smiles all round.

Staying connected with loved ones is so important, especially for those living with memory care needs. Familiar faces, shared experiences and time spent together can bring comfort, spark recognition and create meaningful moments that truly matter.

At Salisbury Manor, we are proud to support not just our residents, but their relationships too because family connections remain at the heart of everything we do. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒฟโ˜•๐Ÿฐ Not another excuse for tea and cakeโ€ฆ!

Our residents enjoyed a lovely trip to the Wilton garden centre, taking in the plants, fresh air and a change of scenery - before somehow ending up with tea and cakeโ€ฆ again! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Outings like these are a wonderful way to stay active, enjoy the community and spend quality time together. And letโ€™s be honest, a cuppa and something sweet is always the perfect finishing touch.

A few photos from a very enjoyable morning out!

โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ Making the most of British Summer Time at Salisbury Manor

With the clocks forward and the sunshine making a welcome return, our residents have been enjoying some lovely time out in the garden - fresh air, blue skies and plenty of smiles all round. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Spending time outdoors is so beneficial for wellbeing. Natural light can help boost mood, support sleep patterns and encourage gentle movement, while fresh air brings a real sense of calm and relaxation.

And of courseโ€ฆ a slice of cake always helps too! ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sometimes, itโ€™s as simple as sitting in the sunshine, enjoying something sweet and sharing a smile that makes all the difference. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿฟ A trip to the cinema for our Salisbury Manor residents!

Our regular outings to the Everyman Cinema are always a highlight and todayโ€™s showing of Cannonball Run didnโ€™t disappoint! ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ

There were plenty of laughs, great company and, of course, the full cinema experience with comfy seats and treats in hand.

Trips like these are so important for our residents. Getting out and about helps maintain independence, boosts mood and provides valuable social interaction. Familiar films can also spark memories and conversation, creating shared moments of joy that continue long after the credits roll.

Itโ€™s all part of supporting a fulfilling and connected lifestyle. ๐Ÿ’›
