Last week was another busy one!

๐Ÿ’‰ Epipen refresher training at Wardour Primary School

โ›‘๏ธ Emergency/Paediatric First Aid training for staff at Edwards Farm Osteopathy, Salisbury Almshouses, Wyvern St Edmunds School, St Joseph's Catholic School, Puddleducks Nursery & Preschool, Broughton Primary School, Amesbury Archer Primary School, WASPs, Andover Baptist DofE programme, Alderbury Preschool, Winterslow Preschool, Coombe Bissett Primary School and Salisbury 6th Form College (the photo shows my fantastic co-trainer, Nell Walker)

๐Ÿคฏ Day 7 of the AI Bootcamp (my mind is blown every single week)

๐Ÿš‘ Community First Responder monthly training - great CPD, this month on neurological conditions

โญ• Monthly Entrepreneurs Circle meeting in Eastleigh - where once again I was named Entrepreneur of the Month! (very proud)

๐Ÿค Great meeting with James Welsh & Lou Walker at College But Different about a collaboration between our two businesses

Topped off with helping at a fundraising coffee morning with the John McNeill Opportunity Centre, the special needs nursery in South Wiltshire that has a special place in my heart. Extra special when you win 2 raffle prizes!
A couple of hours with the soup machine resulted in some homemade carrot and coriander and leek and potato soup for the cold weather coming in this week - and the week is complete!

But what ๐˜ช๐˜ด diabetes, and how can you spot it?

๐Ÿ’‰Diabetes, in simple terms, if the body's inability to create enough, or the right 'shape' of insulin. Insulin is critical to the body's ability to turn your carbohydrates into usable energy - without it, blood sugar (glucose) levels rise but the body is unable to use to for fuel.

๐Ÿ’‰Type 1 is generally early onset (from a young age) and is caused by a fault with the pancreas' ability to produce insulin (or the right shape)
๐Ÿ’‰Type 2 is often termed 'self-inflicted', where unhealthy eating and lifestyle effectively wear the pancreas out so it can no longer produce adequate insulin

1) TIRED - the body can't use the sugar, so they have little energy
2) THIRSTY - the body craves liquid to dilute the sugar in the bloodstream
3) TOILET - it then needs to get rid of the excess fluid - plus flush out some of the sugar
4) THIN - as the body can't process the glucose and use the energy, it constantly pulls stored energy (glucose) from the body's fat cells, so causing them to lose weight

If you or your child has any of these symptoms, please make an appointment with your GP.

๐—ง๐˜†๐—ฝ๐—ฒ ๐Ÿฎ ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€ often develops slowly, and some people may not realise they have it for years. However, there are some common signs to look out for:

๐Ÿšฝ Needing to urinate more often than usual, especially at night
๐Ÿฅค Feeling very thirsty / unable to quench your thirst
๐Ÿ˜ด Feeling very tired or lacking energy
๐Ÿ‘€ Blurred vision
๐Ÿ’จ Cuts or wounds that take longer to heal
๐Ÿž Frequent infections, such as thrush or skin infections
โš–๏ธ Unexplained weight loss (though this is more common in Type 1)
๐Ÿค” Tingling or numbness in hands or feet

If you notice several of these symptoms - especially if they develop gradually - itโ€™s important to speak to your GP. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent serious complications.

๐Ÿ’™Diabetes is covered on our two and three day courses - get in touch for more details of how we can help!

๐Ÿ’› Random Acts of Kindness โ€“ Small Gestures, Big Impact ๐Ÿ’›
On World Kindness Day, what could you do to bring a smile to someone else's face?

Kindness doesnโ€™t have to be grand or expensive - sometimes itโ€™s the little things that make someoneโ€™s day. A simple act can lift a mood, spark a smile, or remind someone that people do care (and in my experience seems to have an even stronger effect on the giver than the receiver!)

One small act can start a ripple effect - imagine the difference if we all did just one kind thing today! ๐Ÿ’ซ

I recall buying 3 bunches of daffodils in Tesco early into the COVID lockdown, and the looks on the faces of the lady on the checkout (bunch 1) and the two random people in the car park (bunches 2 & 3) - probably much clearer than any of them remember being given the flowers! ๐ŸŒผ

๐Ÿ‘‰ Whatโ€™s the kindest thing someone has done for you recently? Or what act of kindness will you do today?

๐ŸŒ€Where employees feel valued and supported, they thrive - and so does your business
๐ŸŒ€Less absenteeism - so better productivity
๐ŸŒ€Less presenteeism - where employees come to work when they're really not fit to do so, or work extended hours because they feel they are not working at their best - and maybe make mistakes that can damage your business or reduce productivity
๐ŸŒ€Better reputation as an employer, attracting quality employee applications and better standing in the business community (and reduced staff turnover)
๐ŸŒ€Higher motivation, morale, job satisfaction and employee engagement
๐ŸŒ€Reducing stigma in the workplace leads to more open communication and the opportunity for early support and signposting

Is it time your business considered Mental Health First Aid Training?

๐ŸŽƒ31st October is not just Hallowe'en, it's also National Magic Day - just watch those sweets ๐Ÿญdisappear into children's mouths!

As well as the usual alerts about watching for the danger of clothing catching fire from pumpkins (particularly from costumes which are made out of non-clothing material which might not have the relevant fire protection levels), there are also other dangers.

Choking is a key one - it's dark, it's harder to see the children and any choking issues might be less obvious. Sweets and lollipops are particular culprits, so here are a few tips for keeping everyone safe!

1) ๐ŸฌDon't allow children to eat their sweets until they get home. Walking along increases their chances of choking as if they should trip or stumble, taking a big breath in and potentially breathing in the sweet they are eating, particularly if they're not carefully watching where their feet are going due to excitement. Save them until they get home!๐Ÿฌ

2) ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธMake sure costumes / outfits don't drag on the floor - to help avoid tripping.๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ

3) Take a torch ๐Ÿ”ฆeven if the streets you're on are well lit, it can help to light the floor to ensure people stay upright!

4) โ›‘Spend less than a minute watching the video so you know what to do if the worst should happen - all you need is knowledge and your own two hands. โ›‘

If your child is small, get down on your knees behind them before carrying out abdominal thrusts - and if they do require even just one abdominal thrust, follow the Resuscitation Council guidelines and ensure they are seen in hospital as a precaution. ๐Ÿš‘

๐ŸŽƒStay safe - enjoy your Hallowe'en and fingers crossed for the weather!๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ›
