How Are We Different in Treating Patients to other clinics? We use Clinical Nutrition & Western Acupuncture within our clinical practice as part of our integrated approach to health care. It mostly enhances musculoskeletal repair when problems are more complex or where arthritis & disc degeneration is present. Chronic tiredness, mood & sleep disturbances, as well as digestive disorders are commonly seen in people in chronic pain, often developing into anxiety issues, clinical depression or IBS. Pharmaceuticals alleviate symptoms, a bit like a sticky plaster, helping short term but as time goes by they can create more problems or an imbalance within other areas of the body. We try to increase patient awareness of other approaches, working with the body to create optimum repair & thus overall health. We firmly believe that everybody needs a balance between good functional biomechanics, a healthy diet with mental wellbeing.

Why does my back hurt when I’ve been sitting or standing for too long?

We’re not designed to be immobile creatures. We rely on movement to get postural muscles contracting and relaxing. This removes the strain created by the weight of the torso, arms and head.

Pause for a moment.

Imagine just how heavy that is…

Unsurprisingly this makes the intervertebral joints and discs work harder. It either creates a problem or aggravates an existing one.

The body gives us a pain signal to say, “Hey Do Something About It!” In the hope that we’ll move.

Sore Throat? Fed up with taking tablets?
Try a soothing juice...!

This protective juice helps to prevent as well as cure sore throats, tonsillitis, laryngitis and sinusitis:

Cucumber Soother

Carrots, 3 unpeeled, remove top and bottom
Celery 2 sticks, with leaves
Pineapple 1 small
Sage 6 fresh leaves
Cucumber 15cm (6in)

It's rich in beta-carotene, potassium, vitamin C and folic acid and is bursting with natural enzymes. Bromelain in pineapple is especially healing for the lining of the mouth and throat, as well as aiding digestion, while cucumber soothes the mucous membranes. Celery is a diuretic reducing the swelling of the tonsils, adenoids and throat.

Add sage for a powerful antiseptic which has been used for hundreds of years.

It's worth choosing a juicer that separates the pulp from the juice, blenders use blades destroying all enzymes dramatically lowering the juices healing capabilities. Drink within 20 minutes for best results.

What Do We Need For A Happy Gut - Pre or Probiotics?

Actually both!

Probiotics are billions of beneficial bacteria that in supplement form have been clinically proven to survive the upper digestive tract to reach the colon, replenishing our friendly gut flora.

These helpful microorganisms break down and digest our food, enhance immunity and lower inflammation but they are easily harmed by antibiotics, bad bacteria ingested when eating on the go (handwashing often goes out the window), and processed foods replacing the diverse variety of nourishing wholefoods needed to feed our gut.

But it's pointless taking probiotics if you aren't going to feed them! That's what prebiotics do. They're a type of fibre that passes through the body undigested and promotes the growth and activity of our friendly gut bacteria. Be Physically Active Today To Feel Brain Sharp Tomorrow!

Did You know the buzz you feel after any exercise can last throughout the next day too? Researchers testing a group of 50-83 year olds after moderate physical activity discovered greater mental sharpness the next day too. The participants also slept better and had improved memory skills.

The good news it can be any activity that raises your heart rate - a brisk walk, dancing (anywhere!) or climbing a few flights of stairs.

It has a positive cognitive effect because it increases blood flow to the brain whilst stimulating neurotransmitters.

Top Tip - How To Protect Your Back When Sneezing
Coughs and sneezes are never fun but when your back is suffering the sudden increase in pressure is akin to a punch to the back and ribs, but from the inside!

Bending your knees and leaning forwards slightly whilst bracing your stomach muscles gives you extra support.

If there's a table or worktop nearby place your hands there to help take the strain, or place hands on your thighs. Your back muscles, lumbar discs and ribs will be safer for it.

If you're in major pain it's always safer to remove the joint restriction before extra problems arise.
