This year, the theme for is ‘This Is My Place’ - a powerful reminder of how important belonging is for children.

For so many children, finding their place isn’t about a physical space.
It’s about feeling safe. Being seen. Knowing they matter.

I support children to find their place through play; especially when words feel too big, too confusing or simply aren’t there yet.
Through play, children share their inner worlds, explore their feelings and begin to make sense of their experiences in a way that feels safe and child-led.

Every child deserves a place where they feel accepted, understood, and free to be exactly who they are.
This week and always, I hold that space for them.🦋

Hey ChatGPT, create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me… ✨

Hi everyone, for those who are new here - welcome 👋🏻
I’m Katie, an emotional wellbeing practitioner, and this is me and my little wellbeing hub where I run most of my sessions from.

It’s basically what you see: a space full of imagination and curiosity, a space for big and small feelings, a space to be seen and heard, a space to be you.
I am truly blessed to be trusted to sit alongside you through this.

From a small idea, to a wellbeing hub, to a safe space full of stories, play and healing.

This caricature feels like a reminder of why I do what I do - creating safety, connection and room for big feelings in children, young people and adults 🦋

Claire is an incredible woman and I feel so grateful to be completing my play therapy training alongside her. While facing cancer, she continues to show up for herself, refusing to let this battle define or limit her dreams. Her strength, determination and commitment to helping others is truly inspiring 🦋

As International Play Therapy Week comes to a close, I’m reflecting on just how vital curiosity is within the therapeutic space. Curiosity invites us to slow down, to notice and to wonder without rushing to fix or explain.

This week brought the ending of sessions with two clients and it reminded me how curiosity supports endings just as much as beginnings. By staying curious, we allow space for meaning, emotion and choice to emerge, rather than imposing closure too quickly.

Through their inner worlds in sandplay, I observed a gentle shift. A quiet curiosity about life beyond our sessions, a testing of independence and a natural breaking away from the therapeutic relationship.

Curiosity allows endings to be held with care - honouring what has been, while staying open to what comes next. 🦋

•Please note this sand tray was created by myself not a client•

I am so proud of myself, my little business and everything I’ve built over the last 18 months. This journey has taught me the power of believing in yourself, even when things feel uncertain or slow. Choosing to trust my instincts and keep going has led me to this moment. This journey has shown me that when you trust yourself and stay aligned with your values, the right opportunities find you.

Along the way, I’ve learnt that the one person who is with you through it all is you - so trust yourself, believe in yourself, respect yourself and do things for you.

I’m incredibly excited to announce that I am now part of the Charlton Nurture Farm team as an Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner, delivering Drawing and Talking Therapy, Sandplay Therapy and LEGO®-based Therapy 🦋

These beautiful knitted worry monsters are a gentle, child-led item for children to share what feels hard to say out loud.

In sessions, they can help support emotional expression, build regulation skills and offer reassurance - reminding children that their worries are heard, held and don’t have to be carried alone 🤍

Every January can feel heavy. Shorter days, colder weather and the post-Christmas lull can all affect our emotional wellbeing. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can impact both adults and children, often showing up as low mood, tiredness, irritability or withdrawing from things we usually enjoy.

Children can feel this too - changes in routine, less daylight and reduced outdoor play can take their toll.

If January leaves you feeling a bit “off”, you’re not failing - you’re human. These feelings are shared by many, and small, gentle changes can help.

Be kind to yourself and those around you 🤍 You’re not alone.

As a perfectionist, this is something I really had to learn during my training and honestly, I’m still learning it every day. It’s just sand. It can be cleaned. It’s okay.

In sandplay, mess isn’t a mistake - it’s communication. I held the space for lots of expression and the sand did exactly what it needed to do. It moved, spilled, shifted and carried meaning in ways words sometimes can’t.

As therapists, we are always learning on the job, whether you’re a newbie or a veteran. Each session teaches us something new: about our clients, about the work and about ourselves. Letting go of control, trusting the process and allowing the mess is often where the real healing happens.
