πŸŽ„β™»οΈ Christmas is a time for joy but it is also a time when plastic use skyrockets.
This December I am sharing 24 days of less plastic and it has sparked some important conversations.

Daily exposure to toxins linked with plastics can affect health over time.
Including hormone balance respiratory health and brain development.
This is not about perfection or guilt.
It is about informed choices. πŸ’œ

Here are some gentle ideas for a lower plastic Christmas.

🎁 Choose plastic free gifts
Think homemade wooden or second hand.
If gifts arrive wrapped in plastic or polystyrene remove it straight away.
If you can smell it that is your cue it is not harmless.

🎟️ Give experiences instead of things
Days out memories and time together mean more than packaging.

πŸŽ… Rethink stockings
Useful thoughtful items rather than throwaway plastic fillers.

🎁 Wrap differently
Use brown paper newspaper or fabric with string.
Avoid glitter as it is plastic and non recyclable.

🍽️ Skip disposable plates and cutlery
They go straight to landfill and eventually back into our environment.

♻️ Recycle properly
Following genuine recycling guidelines helps the whole system work better.

🌿 Decorate naturally
Forage create paper chains and use natural materials where you can.

Small changes really do add up.
And they help protect both our children and the planet they are growing up on. ✨

If you are concerned about toxin exposure or children’s health please message us.
There is a lot we can support you with. πŸ’œ

πŸŽ„βœ¨ We are well and truly into the festive season.
This is not a time for strict rules.
It is about joy connection and enjoying good food.

But it is also okay to want to feel good while you celebrate.
One gentle way to do that is by supporting your gut before rich meals.
No restriction.
No guilt.
Just a small head start for your digestion. πŸ’œ

πŸ₯¬ Start with something green
A small leafy salad before your main meal helps switch digestion on.
This can make richer foods easier to break down later.

πŸ“ Add berries when you can
Cranberries are in season right now.
They are rich in polyphenols and antioxidants and feed gut bacteria.

πŸ₯• Fill your plate with seasonal roots
Parsnips sweet potatoes and carrots are fibre rich and nourishing.
They help support digestion and keep things moving.

πŸ₯œ Choose unsalted nuts for snacks
They keep you fuller for longer and help reduce mindless grazing.

These small choices do not take anything away from the foods you love.
They simply help your body feel more supported balanced and nourished through the season. ✨

β„οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Feeling flat tired or low in mood this winter
One of the simplest things I recommend is walking.

Even five to ten minutes around the block can make a real difference.
Especially during the darker winter months and the busy Christmas period. πŸŽ„

Walking gently nourishes your nervous system.
It helps lower cortisol and supports better hormone balance.
This builds resilience when life feels stressful.

πŸ’“ It supports circulation.
πŸ”₯ It boosts metabolism.
😊 It naturally lifts mood.

If your energy feels low your digestion feels sluggish or you just feel a bit flat, get outside.
Even on cold or rainy days.
Wrap up and walk anyway.

Those small daily walks add up quickly.
And the benefits are powerful. πŸ’œβœ¨

πŸ’»πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ If you spend long hours at a desk this one is for you.

I spend a lot of time desk-bound these days.
I am lucky to use a sit-stand desk so I can alternate between standing and sitting.
But movement still matters.

Here are a few simple stretches I borrow from my yoga practice to loosen up during long workdays.

🧠 Neck release
Place your hands behind your head.
Gently nod forwards and back to release neck tension.

🌡 Mid-back twist
Bring your arms into cactus shape.
Gently twist side to side to release the middle back.

⬆️ Upper-back mobility
Lift and lower the arms slowly to ease stiffness across the shoulders and upper back.

🐈 Desk cat-cow
Place your hands on the desk.
Round your back.
Then flatten it out.
Repeat slowly.

🧎 Desk child’s pose
Walk your hands forward on the desk.
Hinge at the hips and fold down gently.
This mimics a supported child’s pose and stretches the spine.

Try to move every 30 minutes.
Make a cup of tea.
Step into the garden.
Get fresh air and natural light.
Small breaks make a big difference. 🌿✨

πŸŽ„πŸ₯‚ Christmas is nearly here and with it comes sweet treats and festive drinks.
And that is absolutely part of the celebration.

But if you are managing a chronic health condition or supporting your immune system, sugar can have a bigger impact than you realise.
Especially over Christmas and into the New Year when bugs are everywhere. ❄️

One area many people overlook is what they are drinking.

🍹 Festive drinks can be very high in sugar
Think fruity cocktails sweet wines sweet ciders and fizzy drinks.
They can quickly push sugar intake much higher than intended.

πŸ₯‚ Lower sugar swaps
Spirits like gin or vodka.
Dry white wine or champagne.
These tend to be lower in overall sugar.

⚠️ Be mindful of diet drinks
They replace sugar with artificial sweeteners.
Your body often responds in a very similar way.

Enjoy Christmas.
Be conscious rather than restrictive.
And give your body a little support along the way. πŸ’œβœ¨

β„οΈπŸ˜΄ If your sleep feels worse in winter your environment might be the problem.

Indoor heating dries the air and can affect breathing and sleep quality.
A few small tweaks can make a big difference.

🌑️ Keep your bedroom slightly cooler
Aim for around 18Β°C to support deeper sleep.

πŸ’§ Add moisture to the air
Use a humidifier or place a bowl of water near the radiator.

πŸ•―οΈ Dim lights 90 minutes before bed
This helps your body prepare for sleep naturally.

πŸ“± Reduce screen light after dinner
Less blue light supports melatonin production.

These simple changes help your body switch into rest mode and sleep more deeply. πŸ’œβœ¨

πŸ‘‰ Save this for tonight’s bedtime routine.

πŸŽ„βœ¨ Want a festive snack board that supports your gut and blood sugar
You can make a Christmas platter that looks beautiful and helps you feel energised rather than sluggish.

Here is how to build a functional medicine inspired snack board for the holidays.

πŸ“ Start with colour
Add berries citrus slices and pomegranate seeds.
These are rich in antioxidants and look amazing on a festive board.

πŸ₯• Add fibre
Think raw veggies roasted chestnuts and high quality gluten free crackers.
Fibre slows digestion stabilises blood sugar and keeps you satisfied.

πŸ₯‘ Add healthy fats
Include nuts olives and some dark chocolate over 70 percent.
Healthy fats help you stay full and balance energy through the day.

🌿 Include fermented foods
A small pot of kimchi pickles or a cultured dip supports your gut microbiome.
This adds flavour and helps your immune system through winter.

This type of snack board is colourful festive and incredibly supportive for your body.
Perfect for parties or cosy nights in. πŸ’œβœ¨

β„οΈπŸ€’ It is that time of year when so many little ones are picking up bugs.
Here are some of the things I keep in my cupboard and fridge to help support my child’s immunity over the festive season.

Please remember every child is different.
If you need personalised advice book in with us so we can check ingredients and make sure nothing interacts or causes problems. πŸ’œ

🧑 A good quality multivitamin
I choose one with activated B vitamins and supportive nutrients.
Always check the levels and what your child is already taking.

🌱 Gut support
A microbiome formula with beneficial bacteria.
Around 70 percent of the immune system lives in the gut so this can make a real difference.

😴 Sleep support
My child is not a great sleeper so we use a gentle option that helps her relax.
Please note some products may contain dairy so always check labels.

πŸ§‚ Extra zinc
Helpful at the first signs of feeling run down.

β˜€οΈ Vitamin D
Most children need extra support in winter.
I reach for a reliable high strength option.

🍊 Vitamin C spray
Great when she is sick or if we have been in busy crowded places.
It can be a helpful way to top up quickly.

πŸ„ Mushroom support
She takes a blend most days to help keep her immune system steady through winter.

If you need help choosing the right options for your child please reach out.
We are always happy to guide you. πŸ’œβœ¨

β„οΈβœ¨ Zinc and vitamin C are powerful immune supporters but timing matters

🍊 Vitamin C works best when you take it consistently through food or supplements.
Not just when you feel unwell.

🧑 Zinc is most effective when taken at the very first signs of illness.
It helps immune cells develop and respond properly.

You can find both nutrients in everyday foods.
Citrus fruits berries pumpkin seeds and seafood all give you natural immune support. πŸ‹πŸ«πŸŸ

Supplements can help but aim for food first whenever possible. πŸ’œ

πŸŽ„βœ¨ Happy Christmas from The Health Society
Here is your gentle reminder to protect your habits during the holidays.

The Christmas season can pull you away from the routines that keep you feeling well.
Your food choices.
Your sleep.
Your mindfulness.
Your time in nature.

Instead of trying to be perfect think about habit stacking.
Small steps that keep you in control.
Little actions that add up.

Here are simple ways to stay steady this season.

πŸ₯— Choose the dish you can be powerful over
Pick something you know works for your body.
Speak to the host if you need options like salads cold meats or cruditΓ©s.

🍫 Have supportive foods at home
If you want treats choose ones that fit your way of eating.
This keeps you feeling included without breaking the habits you’ve worked hard to build.

🌲 Use the holiday to build new lifestyle habits
Add short walks in nature.
Try mindfulness grounding or meditation.
These cost nothing and support your whole system.

Small steps make a big difference.
Merry Christmas and take care of yourself this season. πŸ’œπŸŽ„
