As the festive season winds down and we look ahead to 2026, we want to remind our patients and their families about the incredible support available locally for those living with dementia. 💚

Beyond Dementia (formerly Alzheimer's Support) runs over 30 friendly community groups across Wiltshire, designed to enhance wellbeing, keep minds and bodies active, and build friendships! 🤝

These groups offer a vital chance for connection, stimulation, and fun for people living with dementia, as well as providing essential support and a break for their family carers. 🫂

They offer a fantastic variety of activities, including:
🎶 Music for the Mind (Singing groups)
🎨 Art Groups & Creative Activities
☕ Memory Cafés (for a cuppa and a chat)
💪 Movement for the Mind (Gentle exercise groups)
🌳 Outdoors groups and Practical Memory Sheds

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉
We’re thrilled to announce that Dr Daniel Chapman will be joining The Orchard Partnership as a new GP Partner in February 2026, following the retirement of Dr Hugh Bond.
Dr Chapman will mainly be based at Cherry Orchard Surgery (Codford) and will usually be working Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Here’s a little about Dr Chapman:

🧠 Studied neuroscience at Nottingham University
🎓 Completed his medical degree at Swansea University
👂 Works with the ENT department at Salisbury District Hospital
💪 Passionate about helping patients live longer, healthier, and more enjoyable lives

Outside of work, Dr Chapman loves spending time with his wife and children exploring the outdoors—fossil hunting, camping, and cycling! 🚴‍♂️ We can’t wait for you to meet him and give him a warm welcome to our community. 💚

Can't see your repeat medication online? 🧐💻

We want to help make ordering your prescriptions through SystmConnect as smooth as possible. We know it can be confusing if a medication you normally take isn't appearing on your list when you log in. 📋🤔

The most common reason for this is that the medication is not yet due according to your repeat medication template. ⏳ The system is designed to help ensure medicines are taken at the correct intervals for your safety. ✅

However, we understand that life happens! 🌟 If you have a legitimate need for your medication earlier than usual—for example, if you are going away on holiday ✈️—you can still request it.

What to do:

* 🔑 Log in to SystmConnect as usual.
* ✍️ If the item isn't on your list, you can manually input the request online.
* 📝 Simply enter the details of the medication you need and the reason for the early request.

While your medications should ideally be synced so they are all due at the same time 🔄, we know this isn't always the case. If you find that you are regularly running out of certain items at different times, it might be worth booking a non-urgent (routine) appointment with a doctor. 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ They can review your medication template to make sure you can re-order the right medication at the right time in the future. 🗓️

🚨 Important Update: NHS Industrial Action 17th – 22nd December 🚨

The Orchard Partnership wants to keep all our patients informed about the current industrial action by Resident Doctors (formerly known as junior doctors). 🩺

The strike is scheduled to take place from today until 06:59 on Monday 22nd December. 🗓️

What this means for you:

🏥 Salisbury District Hospital: The hospital remains very busy with winter pressures and flu. During the strike, they will operate a "near Bank Holiday" level of service. However, essential services like the Emergency Department (A&E), Maternity, and Critical Care will remain open. 🚑

📅 Appointments: If you have a hospital appointment or a procedure scheduled during this time, please attend as planned unless the hospital contacts you directly to reschedule. 📞

🩺 Our Surgery: We are open as usual! GP practices are not on strike, and you should continue to attend your appointments with us unless told otherwise. 🌳

How you can help:

To ensure those with life-threatening emergencies get the care they need, please choose the right service for your needs:

✅ NHS 111: For urgent medical advice that isn't an emergency, visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111. They can direct you to the best place for care. ☎️

Please note the following:

🚪 The surgery premises are closed completely today.
📞 Don't worry if you need us! All calls to the surgery are being automatically diverted to our wider team at other Partnership sites, who will handle your enquiry.
🙏 Non-Urgent? If your request can wait, please call us tomorrow (Thursday 18th) to help keep the lines free for urgent needs today.

🔑 Select SystmOnline
🖊️ Enter your SystmOnline username and password, then submit
📜 Scroll down slightly to Other Medical Request
💊 Select Medication Request from the drop-down menu
✔️ Choose the pre-authorised repeat medication you’d like to request and submit
📄 You’ll then see the summary page where you can check or add any notes if required
✅ Finally, click Submit – that’s it!

Planned Power Outage: Wednesday 17 December 🗓️

Please be advised that Till Orchard Surgery in Shrewton will be closed all day on Wednesday 17 December. This is due to planned essential remedial and upgrade works being carried out by the National Grid in the village, which will affect our power supply. ⚡👷

What you need to know:

🚪 Surgery Access: The building will be closed for the entire day.
📞 Phone Calls: All incoming calls will be automatically diverted to our other partner sites within The Orchard Partnership. Please be assured that your call will still be answered by a member of our wider team.
🩺 Appointments: If you have a pre-arranged phone appointment with a clinician for this day, please keep your appointment time. Your clinician will be working remotely and will call you as close as possible to your arranged time.
🙏 Non-Urgent Queries: If your enquiry is not urgent, we kindly ask you to call us on a different day (Thursday 18 December onwards) to help keep the diverted phone lines clear for urgent patient needs.
