Following a respiratory virus over eleven years ago I was left with a permanent cough which impacted adversely on all aspects of my life. For years I avoided all public performances, concerts and even the cinema, because the coughing was unpredictable, violent and unmanageable. During that time I saw six different consultants; none had a solution. I took up singing in a choir to help my breathing but was always in a state of heightened anxiety that the coughing would intervene. The concept of actually singing in a concert seemed for the birds.
