What to do when someone you love passes away
Losing someone is incredibly hard, and in those first moments it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed or unsure of what to do next. If you ever find yourself in that situation, here are a few simple steps to guide you:
Let the GP, hospital, District Nurses or emergency services know
They’ll help with the immediate formalities depending on where the person has passed away.
Reach out to a funeral director
You don’t need to have all the answers. We’re here to talk things through, explain what happens next, and support you at your pace.
Tell close family or friends
Lean on the people who care about you. You don’t have to navigate this moment alone.
Locate any important documents
This can be done whenever you feel ready, but it often helps to gather:
Identification
Any pre‑paid funeral plan documents
Life insurance policies
A Will, if one exists
Any written wishes they may have left
Register the death
This is usually done within a few days, and we can guide you through what you’ll need and how the process works.
Take things slowly
There’s no rush to make every decision right away. One step at a time is enough.
If you ever need guidance or just someone to talk things through with, we’re here whenever you need us. Our team is available 24/7 to offer guidance, comfort, and practical support at every step.
