ABBEYFIELD HOUSE, SANDERSTEAD
RELIEF STAFF VACANCY

A bit about Abbeyfield … Abbeyfield House provides sheltered accommodation for older people who no longer wish to live alone. Our House in Beechwood Road, Sanderstead has rooms for a maximum of 9 residents (currently we have 7) and offers a comfortable, welcoming and ‘homely’ feel. There is a resident House Manager who runs the House on a day-to-day basis and prepares the meals. Relief Staff cover days off, holidays etc. Each resident has their own en-suite room, but shares meals in the communal area where everyone can also socialise. The House has a good-sized garden which residents are welcome to use.

The vacancy … We currently have a vacancy for Relief Staff to work a minimum of 2 days per month. The days worked are negotiable and the hours will be 8:30am to 1:30pm (lunch) and 4:00pm to 6:30pm (high tea) and may involve some weekend work. Cover is also required for the House Manager’s holidays, days off or sick leave and will be paid at the standard rate. Relief Staff report to the House Manager who liaises with the Trustees. The post carries holiday pay which will vary according to the number of hours worked. The hourly rate of pay is above the national minimum wage.

What is involved … The work primarily involves the preparation of lunches and high teas for the residents and occasional visitors. All food is cooked in-house using fresh ingredients wherever possible. Additionally, Relief Staff deal with any tradesmen who may be working in the House, any visitors and answer the telephone. Some experience of catering would be useful but not essential, but a welcoming attitude and a desire to create a comfortable home for the residents is important.

Interested? … Either for yourself or a friend? Please contact our Chair on 07941 005939 for more details, and an opportunity to visit the House.
