Birth photograph Every birth and baby born is a beautiful moment in time.

Hi my name is Erika, a Birth and Post natal Doula. I believe in helping women achieve the labour and birth that they want, whatever that may be. I feel that the birth experience you have is a crucial part of your life. I believe that I have the ability to help you and your partner achieve positive birth memories for the rest of your lives. I am a Mother of two wonderful children Rhys & Ava who made it possible for me to work as a Doula, as without them it is unlikely that I would have become a Doula. The other person that should be acknowledged, as well as my partner, is my second birth partner. She showed me a path that I would never have otherwise imagined possible, having her supporting me in an unfamiliar environment and experience, was key to how I later perceived my births. She also took away the need for me to worry about my partner and his needs which in turn allowed me to concentrate on my bodies’ needs and labour. My aim is to help you achieve this inner peace during birth and to look back and acknowledge that you achieved the most amazing event in your life. After months of joyful bliss, baby showers, shopping, girlfriends, and uninterrupted nights, all that changes in a heartbeat. Many women experience sleep deprivation, slight loneliness, breastfeeding trouble, and a partner who will soon be going back to work. I believe strongly that a woman who has postpartum support and is nourished physically, emotionally, and spiritually will be, in herself, a haven of nourishment to her baby, her other children, and to her husband. This is where I can help you as a Post Natal Doula. I have always had a keen interest in photography so have recently been offering clients photos of their birth story. Have you ever considered having a story of your birth told in pictures? Memory is a funny thing, we all too often think we will remember important events or the small details but with the best will in the world our memory fades. Factor in sleep deprivation that you may experience in the first few months and there we have it, a scant image of how your labour progressed and a fleeting image of your precious baby being placed on you. Now, imagine a story of how your labour progressed over those hours, you and your partner working together, in tune with each other or perhaps the squeeze of a hand at the height of a wave (contraction), swaying or being comforted by your partner, Mother or doula. That moment when your gift to the world, your child is placed on you. As you both find each others eyes for the very first time. When the world suddenly stops for those few moments - captured in a photo to be treasured by you and all those close by. Sounds perfect doesn't it? So saddened to hear that the wonderful Dr Michel Odent passed away at 95 years old.
I attended his training to become a Doula 12 years ago.
His knowledge and wisdom will be greatly missed.

We are so sorry to hear this news from Michel Odent's family.

"It is with great sorrow that the family of Dr Michel Odent announce his death at the age of 95. Dr Odent was born July 7, 1930, in Bresles, France. He died peacefully in London, England, on August 19, 2025 following a brief illness.

Dr Odent trained as a general surgeon in Paris, and advocated for the demedicalisation of birth whilst in charge of Pithiviers Hospital. In later life, he founded the Primal Health Research Centre in London, and published extensively on topics related to childbirth and early breastfeeding.

He is survived by many loved ones, including his partner Liliana, and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to La Leche League. Dr Odent will be cremated in a private family service with a public memorial to follow in several weeks."
