I'm sharing something today that feels deeply personal.

For years, I’ve noticed that the quiet space between sleep and waking holds something powerful. Insight. Clarity. A kind of inner guidance that only seems to speak when everything else goes quiet.

I didn’t even realise this was a recognised neurological state. I just knew that when I slowed down enough to listen, my body would show me what it needed.

That practice changed my life.

It helped me move through heart failure.
It’s helped me live with a stable neuroendocrine tumour.
It helped me regulate my nervous system, make braver decisions, and eventually move to an island and completely reshape my world.

Not through force. Not through denial.
Through listening.

This video is me explaining what I’ve learned — both personally and through neuroscience — about that in-between state and why I believe it can guide healing and direction in ways we don’t talk about enough.

Most people don’t have a personality problem.

They have a trained response pattern.

Under pressure, people tend to fall into one of these:

1. Rapid escalation — intensity rises quickly.

2. Emotional withdrawal — shut down and distance.

3. Over-control — tightening and correcting.

4. Hypervigilance — scanning and overthinking.

5. Compliance — smoothing things over to avoid tension.

None of these are flaws. They are neural responses.

The important question is:

Which one is running on automatic when it matters most?

Over the years, my work has always focused on one thing:

Changing the patterns that keep people stuck.
