✊🏽 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – 21 March

Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a global day that encourages us all to stand united against racism and promote equality, respect and kindness.

Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness and respect, regardless of their background, culture or ethnicity. By recognising this day, we help raise awareness and continue working towards communities and workplaces where everyone feels safe, valued and included.

At The Bay Medical Practice, we are committed to providing inclusive, respectful care for all members of our community.

🌴 Across the Isle of Wight and Hampshire, organisations are also working to support equality and inclusion. Resources are available within the NHS to help tackle discrimination, bullying and harassment and promote respectful workplaces:

If you think you may have meningitis or meningococcal infection you need to call 999 immediately.

Symptoms can look like a viral infection (flu) & include a high fever, being sick, headache, a rash that does not fade when pressed, a stiff neck, a dislike of lights, cold/painful hands & feet, pale skin, drowsiness, seizures.

A meningitis vaccine has been part of the routine vaccination program since 2015. If you were born before 2015 currently you are not eligible. 💊 What can the Pharmacy First service help with?

Did you know your local pharmacy can assess and treat some common conditions without you needing to see a GP?

Through the NHS Pharmacy First service, pharmacists can provide advice and, if appropriate, supply NHS medicines for the following conditions:

• Sinusitis (aged 12+)
• Sore throat (aged 5+)
• Earache (aged 1–17)
• Infected insect bites (aged 1+)
• Impetigo (aged 18+)
• Shingles (aged 18+)
• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged 16–64

Pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who can offer expert advice, treatment and medicines where appropriate, often without needing an appointment.

Using Pharmacy First helps you get help quickly and keeps GP appointments available for patients who need them most.

📊 Monday in Review

Yesterday was another busy day at the practice.

📞 We received 500 calls in total
⏱️ Average wait time: 13 minutes 50 seconds
⏳ Longest wait: 58 minutes

Between 8am and 9am, 40 callers were offered the call-back option, but only 17 patients chose to use it.

☎️ Remember – requesting a call back holds your place in the queue, and we will call you when you reach the front. This means you don’t need to stay on hold.

💻 You can also submit your request online from 7am (before the phone lines open):
https://thebaymedical-consult.uk.rapidhealth.co.uk/

Online requests go through the same forms and are reviewed by the same team as requests made over the phone, and often help you avoid the queue.

Thank you for your patience and for helping us keep our phone lines available for those who need them most. 💙

🌸 Mother’s Day – Your Way 🌸

Mother’s Day can look different for everyone, and however you spend the day is okay.

For some it’s a time to celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, carers and role models who support us every day. For others it may be a quieter day of reflection, remembrance, or simply taking time for yourself.

However you choose to spend today, we hope you’re able to do something that supports your wellbeing, whether that’s connecting with loved ones, taking a moment to rest, or celebrating the positive things in your life.

From everyone at The Bay Medical Practice, we’re wishing you a gentle and peaceful Mother’s Day. 💐
