WHO AM I?

We got a few new followers over the past few months and thought I’d introduce myself 👋

I’m Jo, and I’m the owner/ head coach at MNG Nutrition!

I work specifically with strength athletes but I also coach gym-goers in becoming stronger, leaner and more confident

I work with strength athlete’s primarily because I am one, they have an amazing sense of humour - usually! And they are also usually into nerdy stuff 👀

I enjoy playing games in my spare time - currently replaying the mass effect trilogy and compete in powerlifting & strongwoman for fun!

You can usually find me in a coffee shop since coffee is life ☕️ 😂

A fact most people don’t know about me: I have Asperger’s (ASD) so say hi if you are also neurodivergent 😬

I believe in creating a supportive, safe and encouraging space for people!

My DMs are open to talk and I’m always willing to help so feel free to send me a message if you need any help or wanna talk about the new mass effect in production 😂

Nutrition for better health 💪🏻

Blue zones are places in the world where there are large numbers of people living above 100 years & have little to no disease!

There are 5 in total so far that have been studied, out of these studies there are some nutrition similarities

Living a life without disease should always be the priority for each person

But no matter what your goal, sport or whatever, each person should be applying these principles

Notice how it says LIMIT - because moderation is key, it is achievable and overall more sustainable!

If you are just starting out and want to improve your nutrition but don’t have money for a coach, then I’d suggest following these to get you started

Not only with you function & feel better, your body shape with change too 👏🏻

Do Your Habits Reflect The Person You Want To Be?

Many people want to change their body, or their relationship with themselves or food

Some people want to improve their performance and smash their training/comps

A 6-week shred challenge or a 3-month coaching block is a great way to get started towards your goals

But they mean nothing without building the mundane habits that will see you keep succeeding past the coaching block

We are products of our habits

If we habitually skip training and binge eat on a night, your body, mindset and energy will reflect that!

Look at your habits and ask, are they serving you to being the person you want to be, or are they the reason you are stuck!

GETTING A COACH DOESN'T MEAN YOU DON'T NEED TO PUT IN THE WORK

You might want to read that again, it's a hard pill to swallow

Simply getting a coach isn't going to suddently make you unstoppable, ripped or strong!

A coach can't physically eat or cook your food for you, they can't lift the weights and build the strength or muscle for you, they can't meditate or stretch to manage your stress for you.... get where i'm going?

A coach provides you with steps, with a plan which is up to you to impliment

YOU NEED TO ACTION

You pay a coach to keep you accountable, but you still need to ENAGE and ACTION your participation in the coaching process!

The moral of the story, getting a coach can make the process less confusing, it can dramatically descrease the time it takes you to get where you want to go

But it's not a silver bullet

Just because you have a coach means nothing if you don't ENGAGE or ACTION what they give you

If you think all your problems, and effort can go in the bin once you sign up with a coach then you are going to be sorely dissapointed, sorry but i'm not here to bu****it you

Bottom line, understand that it's your action that makes a plan a success or not, if you can't accept that, i'd advice on saving your money and not hiring a coach until you can

As we approach the Christmas period it’s even more important that this be put out there

I struggle with depression, anxiety, ASD (Asperger’s) and potential PTSD (non-diagnosed)

So trust me when I say, physical health is important, but so is mental health

In my darkest times getting into the gym seams impossible- even tho it usually helps!

And for a lot of people poor mental health can lead to poor physical health!

Can end up in a vicious cycle

This time of year is the worse for increased depression and the effects of mental illness

So just remember to take care of yourself, be kind to yourself, reach out for help when needed and work with your coach if you are struggling!

It shouldn’t be taboo to talk about it!

It doesn’t make you any less, it doesn’t make you weak!

If you’ve read this far! Take time for yourself, time to destress! And remember that it’s just as important to make this time for yourself as it it to go to the gym and smash it 👏🏻

WE ARE BACK…(PUN INTENDED)

Not been very well for a while and not been training but starting to get back to it 🤩

We all have set backs, sometimes we need time away due to illness etc

That DOESN’T define our progress, it’s what you choose to do after!

Training felt like crap, things hurt and out of breathe (thanks crappy lungs 🤣)

But it’s about showing up, and doing what you can & dealing with the hand you’ve been dealt 👏🏻

If you’ve been struggling recently let this be the motivation now, to do something

Do a light weight session in the gym

Stretch at home and work on flexibility

Go for a walk and stretch your lungs

Focus on eating better quality food at each meal

Whatever you do… Don’t…. Give…. Up

WHAT CHOICE ARE YOU MAKING ON A DAILY BASIS?

This is something recently I needed to hear!

Let’s face it life gets in the way, we get comfortable, we get busy, we get complacent

We have a list of excuses that we use to make us feel better

We pretend we have no control

STOP 🛑

Somethings are out of our control but we can control how we deal with them!

We choose, on a daily basis!

We all need to ask ourselves, what are we choosing? And are we happy with that choice?

If not, then change it!

Why a 7-Day Food Diary?📔

As a nutritionist, knowing what you are eating/consuming is kind of the aim of the game!

Sure I can just tell you what to eat (which works for some people)

But we always end up in the realm of working on behaviours, choices and giving back that person more responsibility & autonomy!

If you want to learn how to improve your nutrition, then understanding why you eat the way you do is important!

For me to help any client I need to see what the ‘norm’ is, over the week and the weekend!

It helps to identify A LOT!
