📢 Eastfield Medical Centre – Progress and Local Support

🗓️ Week 19 since the flood

We know how difficult these past months have been and want to thank everyone in our Eastfield community for your continued patience and understanding while we work to restore local services. 💙

🏛 Recent Developments

🧱 On Friday 31st October, a surveyor visited the site to assess the damage caused by the second flood. We are now awaiting his report to determine the next steps required to move forward with repairs. 🧰

On Thursday 30th October, We met with MP Alison Hume, who visited the Eastfield site to see first-hand the extent of the damage. We are very grateful for her time and support in helping us work towards restoring medical services in Eastfield as soon as possible. 🙏

On the same day, we also met with representatives from The Lounge, St Cecilia’s Day Centre
(1 Eastway, Eastfield, Scarborough, YO11 3LS) to explore ways they can help support local residents and the continued delivery of care. 🤝

🩺 Service Update

We’re pleased to confirm that, from Tuesday 4th November, we will have access to a dedicated clinical room at The Lounge (St Cecilia’s).

This will allow our Health Care Assistant to provide a range of essential services locally, including:
💉 Blood tests
📋 Long-term condition reviews
🩹 Stitch and clip removals
⚕️ Other routine care appointments

We are also in discussions regarding the possibility of a second clinical room at St Cecilia’s to help us further increase local access to care.

We continue to operate services from our temporary locations:

🏥 St Catherine’s Hospice – Throxenby Lane, Scarborough, YO12 5RE
(3 clinical rooms – approx. 6 miles from Eastfield)

🏥 Lawrence House Medical Centre – 1 Belgrave Crescent, Scarborough, YO11 1UB
(2 clinical rooms – approx. 3 miles from Eastfield)

🏥 Brook Square Surgery (Trafalgar House) – 41–44 Trafalgar Street West, Scarborough, YO12 7AS
(2 clinical rooms for our Mental Health & Physiotherapy practitioner appointments – approx. 3 miles from Eastfield)

We are also very grateful to:

💙 Happy Futures Support Specialist – Unit 19 Business Park, Manor Garth, Eastfield, YO11 3TU – for continuing to hold our vaccine fridge and support our flu vaccination clinics.

🏡 Jazz Court (Sanctuary Supported Living) – for continuing to house our administrative teams, enabling us to keep essential functions running smoothly.

🚐 Mobile POD Update

We were initially able to continue running appointments from the St Catherine’s mobile POD, which was connected to the electrical supply within the Eastfield Medical Centre building. ⚡

However, following the second flood, the building’s electrics sustained further damage, meaning it is no longer safe to connect the POD. As a result, we have had to use a generator to power it.

Unfortunately, because the generator is located directly underneath the POD, it has created significant noise, making it difficult for clinicians to carry out assessments — particularly when listening to patients’ chests and breathing. 🔊

We are actively looking for a safe and suitable location with in Eastfield to connect the POD to an electrical system, ideally with some shelter for patients to wait comfortably. Finding a secure and practical solution remains one of our top priorities. 💪

———

💉 Vaccination Update

We have prioritised our housebound patients by conducting home visits for both flu and COVID vaccinations.

Our team has ensured that patients living in:
🏠 Cayton View Care Home
🏠 Jazz Court
🏠 Happy Futures
🏠 and all housebound patients in their own homes

…have either already been vaccinated or are on our to-do list for upcoming visits. ✅

This ongoing effort ensures that our most vulnerable patients remain protected, thanks to the dedication of our clinical staff and the continued support of our community partners. 💚

📞 Please Note

Patients are kindly asked not to contact any of the locations where our clinical or administrative teams are currently working.

For all enquiries, please contact us in the usual way on 📞 01723 582297, and our dedicated staff will be happy to help. 💬

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered:
📱 Through the NHS App, or
💊 By dropping your repeat slip at Eastfield Pharmacy, where our staff collect requests daily.

🤝 Continuing Efforts

We remain in close contact with the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) as we continue pressing for clarity on the building repair schedule.

Our priority remains to bring services back to the Eastfield Medical Centre site safely and without further delay. 🧱

💬 Thank You

We want to once again thank all our patients for their continued patience, understanding, and support during this challenging time.

To all of you — we truly appreciate your support. 💙

We will continue to provide updates as soon as there is any further progress.

✅ Please share to help keep the Eastfield community informed.

📢 Update on Eastfield Medical Centre – Building Repairs and Current Situation

We completely understand how distressing and frustrating this ongoing situation has been for our patients and the wider Eastfield community. We want to thank everyone for your patience and continued support while we work to restore local services. 💙

🏥 Current Position
• We do not own the Eastfield Medical Centre building.
• We are awaiting instruction from the landlord regarding the repair schedule and next steps.
• Repair work went out to tender in September, with contractors invited to provide quotes. Unfortunately, we’ve not yet received confirmation of when the work will begin, despite our ongoing efforts to chase for updates.
• We attempted to use the four undamaged clinical rooms on the ground floor within the Eastfield building to continue seeing patients on-site, but this was vetoed by the landlord’s representatives.
• A portacabin was also suggested as a temporary solution; however, permission was not granted for it to be installed on-site.
• We continue to work closely with the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) and keep them fully informed at every stage.

🛠 Temporary Service Arrangements
• We initially operated from a mobile POD provided by St Catherine’s Hospice to continue delivering essential services.
• After a second flood, the Eastfield site became unsafe and the POD had to be moved to Jazz Court.
• The new site currently runs on a generator for power, which is quite loud and makes consultations more difficult for both patients and clinicians.
• We now have access to:
• 2 clinical rooms at Lawrence House, Scarborough (approx. 3 miles away)
• 3 clinical rooms at St Catherine’s, Newby (approx. 6 miles away)
We know this isn’t ideal — especially for those who find travel difficult — and we are doing all we can to bring services back to Eastfield.

🤝 Community Support

We’ve received incredible support from local partners who have helped us continue caring for our patients:
• 💉 Happy Futures – kindly hosted our flu vaccination clinics and are also housing our vaccine refrigerator to ensure we can continue storing and administering vaccines safely.
• 🏡 Jazz Court – provided space for our administrative team and the relocated POD.
• 🏥 St Cecilia’s Group – are looking to see if they can provide us with room space at the Day Care Centre in Eastfield.
• 💚 St Catherine’s Hospice – have been hugely supportive in providing both the POD and clinical rooms at their Newby site so we can continue offering patient care.
• 🧭 We have also looked at the possibility of using both the One Stop Shop on the High Street and The Link Building, but unfortunately they are not an option at the moment.

⏳ Where We Are Now

We are now in Week 17 of operating under our business continuity arrangements, something we never imagined would still be necessary at this stage.

This prolonged disruption has affected both staff and patients, and we completely share your frustration at the lack of visible progress. Please be assured that we are exhausting every possible avenue to restore services to Eastfield as quickly and safely as we can.

💬 Thank You

We remain fully committed to keeping everyone informed as the situation evolves and will continue to share updates as soon as we receive new information.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and continued support during this exceptionally challenging time.

Eastfield Medical Centre Update

Dear Patients

We know a lot of you are frustrated with the lack of progress with the reopening of Eastfield Medical Centre and honestly, we feel the same. It’s been a really difficult and frustrating process for us too. We know just how important local NHS services are for this community, and like you, we want to see things moving much quicker.

The biggest hold-up has been with loss adjusters / builders ensuring the building is safe for our staff and patients. It has taken far longer than anyone expected, and we understand how disappointing this is.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to get the centre open again. As soon as we have firm updates, we will, of course share them with you straight away.

👉 On a positive note, many of you will have noticed the St Catherine’s Hospice Pod in our car park today. We’ll be using the Pod every, Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout September to bring much-needed appointments back to our residents.

⚠️ Please note: the Pod is not a walk-in service, it is by appointment only.

Thank you to everyone who has been patient and supportive, it really does mean a lot while we continue to fight to get this sorted for Eastfield. 💙
