Bitters aren’t just a flavour — they’re powerful plant medicine 🌿✨

Herbal bitters are plants rich in naturally bitter compounds (like alkaloids, phenolics and volatile oils) that create a sharp taste and trigger powerful physiological effects in the body. When we taste bitterness, receptors in the mouth and gut activate and stimulate the vagus nerve — switching us into rest-and-digest mode.

The result? Improved digestive motility, increased stomach acid, bile and enzyme secretion, better nutrient absorption, and enhanced liver detox support. Traditionally described as cooling, dispersing and grounding, bitters help reduce inflammation, ease bloating, relieve sluggish digestion, and calm an overactive nervous system.

Bitters are especially supportive for those with weak digestion, poor gut health, hormonal imbalances, or who feel stressed and “on edge” as they are toward moving and grounding and help us to feel more down to earth.

How to implement bitters into your lifestyle? Digestive bitter drops are the best thing to carry around in your pocket to drop onto your tongue before a meal to stimulate proper digestion - ask your herbalist for some!

Sometimes the most healing things are the hardest to taste 💚🌿

A client success story - nervous system support

Hyperbolic tapering may be a potential new way that anti-depressants can be reduced to lessen the effects of withdrawal ✨🌿

Herbal medicine can be used alongside antidepressants, in a safe way, prescribed by a herbalist to help support your nervous system health.

Please note: This reel is just a tale of my experience and any action of reducing your antidepressants should be advised by a qualified medical professional.

3 Subtle Signs that Stress is affecting your Gut 🌿

1• You feel bloated “for no reason”

Even if your diet hasn’t changed, stress can slow stomach emptying and alter gut motility. When your nervous system changes into ‘fight-or-flight’ response, digestion becomes a lower priority - leading to gas build-up, pressure and the tight, uncomfortable feeling after meals

2• Your bowel habits are inconsistent

One week it’s sluggish and the next week it’s urgent - leaving you uncertain about when you will need the toilet. Stress directly impacts the gut-brain axis, this influences how quickly food moves through your gut. Many people notice flare-ups of symptoms similar to Irritable Bowel Syndrome during emotionally intense or busy periods

3• You feel full quickly or nauseous

Low-grade stress can increase gut sensitivity and reduce digestive secretions. That “knot” in your stomach or loss of appetite isn’t random - it’s your nervous system signalling that it doesn’t feel safe to prioritise digestion.

As a Medical Herbalist, I always think of the nervous system when supporting my patients with their gut health 🌱✨

What practices do you reach for to calm your gut when you’re stressed?

16/02/2026

Spices!

Often when we are feeling a bit low we naturally go for calming nervines. But sometimes we need a bit of stimulation to help boost us up out of that rut.

I was just in my kitchen and making some tea to uplift myself and I thought would film it.

Mini monographs below:

• Cinnamon - effective against Seasonal affective disorder, it’s volatile oils uplifting mood and bring a sense of calm too - a comforting presence in a mug

• Cardamom - Often referred to as ‘Queen of the spices’ this herb has been shown to lower stress and anxiety, through uplifting the mood and relaxing the mind.

• Ginger - this herb has been shown to increase levels of Dopamine and Serotonin. However, I love this herb for its ability to boost circulation and thus enliven the body, which is perfect when you are feeling low and sluggish.

Did you know all of these herbs are fantastic for gut health too?

What do you reach for when you are feeling down in the dumps with the winter blues?

‼️An exciting announcement‼️

I am going to be working with to create a herbal medicine garden - based on traditional physic gardens of the past!

I will be doing a post on what a physic garden is and the history of the officina soon - so stay posted for updates!

• A mini Monograph- A bit about one of my favourite herbs - Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) 🌱

• Traditionally used as a herb for the nervous system, this herb is fantastic for calming a racing mind and bringing calmness within the mind and the body too.

• It’s a herb high in vitamins and minerals, so it is beneficial at feeding the nerves and helping them to regain strength - specific where there is burnout and nervous exhaustion.

• It is also a digestive bitter, which helps to stimulate digestive secretions and get our guts moving and digesting properly!

If you want to learn more about herbal medicine, keep an eye out on my social media page for upcoming workshops. Alternatively give me a message and I can tell you all about what is happening up at herbal medicine wise!

Let either myself or know if you have any herbs or other seeds that you wish to donate. Anything will be appreciated!!!

What seeds do you like to grow or are planning on growing this year?

Best wishes, Dylan 🌿✨

The olive tree has always been held in high regard from ancient times to the present day 🫒

● Olive trees have been intertwined in human history for more than 6,000 years, according to archaeologists who have found evidence of cultivation dating back to the Bronze age.

● Throughout history, this tree has symbolised peace, wisdom, and prosperity in ancient civilizations and religions too. Olive tree is still regarded as a symbol of peace in the present day - Have you ever heard the expression to offer an olive branch? 🕊

● The olive tree provides us with many parts of it to use - Fresh olives, olive oil and its leaves too!

● In Herbal Medicine, I mainly use the leaves and the olive oil for its medicinal uses.

● The leaves are fantastic for supporting Cardiovascular health - supporting blood pressure regulation, regulating cholesterol levels which contributed to a healthy heart. It is also full of antioxidants, which protect the arteries, veins and heart tissue from damage 💔

● Olive helps to push and increase blood flow throughout the body, which warms the body up and it can help to increase sweating. This action is known as a febrifuge, which means it's beneficial for helping to break a fever 🤒 and sweat out any illness

● The antioxidant effects are also very beneficial for protecting the brain and other tissues of the body from inflammation 🔥

● Olive leaves are also fantastic for helping to regulate blood sugar levels - helping to curb sugar cravings and potentially prevent the development of diabetes.

● Overall, olive is antimicrobial which we can use to help balance bacteria in our bodies - for example in the gut microbiome or on our skin to help reduce infection of a wound🦠

● Olive oil is full of healthy fats omega-3 and omega-6 (monounsaturated fatty acids), which can help to lower "bad" levels of Cholesterol and increase "Good" levels of beneficial cholesterol. Omegas also help to support joint, brain and emotional wellbeing too!

What do you like to use olive for? 🫒

Hello everyone!

Please see my previous post to be updated on why I am changing my prices!

I decided to do an end of year review for my business and realised that how I run it will have to change!

I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year and I hope everyone has a prosperous and wonderful 2026!

Best wishes, Dylan x

Thank you 2025! For the lessons above everything else ✨

This year has been the first year of starting my business and after reviewing everything, I hardly broke even (If not a bit under).

Starting a business is tough, especially when you have never done it before! I came straight out of uni, fresh 21 year old with no financial backing or any experience.

I can say that this year has had its many ups and downs, I find it hard to charge the right and sustainable amount to those who are needing help with their health as I think it should be accessible to everyone! I often found myself reducing my rates and giving things away for free, as I wanted to help out as much as I could.

However, I have now learnt the hard way that it is unsustainable for me to run my business like this, as it’s not a business but more of a charity with my own pocket funding it - how can I look after myself and give care to others if I cannot support myself and my business financially? You cannot water others if you do not water yourself 🌸

Furthermore, the prices of herbs are increasing significantly and my business rates for my clinic have been increased significantly too, which will have to be considered in my pricing for the New Year 🦋

Anyways, this is just the downside to being inexperienced and 2026 will be my year for running my business ethically and sustainably!

I am writing this post to be very open and honest to everyone and to make those aware of why my prices will be rising.

I love my work but I cannot unfortunately be giving it away for free. I am a fully qualified Herbalist, who worked very hard for many years to gain my skills and knowledge - I qualified with a First Class Honours BSc in Clinical Herbalism 🌿

I would like to thank everyone that has been supportive and to all of my clients in my first year of business! Things are going to change, but for the better! As I will be happier and healthier and my business will be sustainable ✨

P.s I will still be offering accessible Herbal medicine and healthcare, but at a level that is accessible to myself too.

Much love and new year’s blessings!

A quite burnt out Dylan x 🌿✨💕

Good morning! 🌞

Here is a little video to show what I do to dispense a herbal medicine prescription! It's a very in-depth process to research and then finally pick and choose the herbs that go into a blend!

In this video, I am choosing herbs to support a client with emotional exhaustion and emotional imbalance.

The aim of this herbal prescription is to help to calm, uplift and regulate the nervous system to support emotional balance, whilst helping to support digestive function to bring back appetite and help support the gut microbiome, as well as helping to support the liver in metabolising out all of the stress hormones!

This unique and bespoke blend contains the following herbs:

1. Ashwagandha - a nutritive adaptogen, which helps to create resilience and calming in the body

2. Milk Thistle - a liver and kidney supportive herb

3. Vervain - Nervous system replenished and restorer, with affinity for the liver and gut health!

4. Prepared Rhemania root - a Blood builder that helps to increase the quality of the blood whilst helping to restore the adrenal glands

5. Lemon Balm - a calming and uplifting herb to the nervous system, with an affinity to help mental clarity and help regulate the gut microbiome!

6. Rose 🌹 - a herb which uplifts in times of grief and helps a sensitive and weakened heart to regain its strength 💪

What herbs do you need out of this mix?

As a teen I frequently suffered from breakouts and feelings of irritation emotionally and on my skin.

Once I began looking into herbs, I realised that it might be my liver that was calling out for support!

I slowly began implementing milk thistle capsules and Dandelion and burdock tea and I noticed that I didn’t feel as irritated and my skin wasn’t as hot and inflamed 🔥

Our liver is a vital organ, it is constantly working so that are insides are clean and happy. So why not help it sometimes and give it a bit of support with herbal medicine?
