This week, we had the utmost privilege of looking after the family of the late Elizabeth Kelly.

Elizabeth was best known for portraying Nellie Ellis in the iconic BBC soap EastEnders, appearing in 138 episodes from 1993 to 1998 and briefly returning in 2000.

She was admired for bringing warmth, humour, and depth to her roles, particularly as Nellie Ellis, a memorable and often mischievous relative in EastEnders.

Her career made her a familiar and much-loved face on British television for over four decades.

The service took place at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, followed by a private burial.

It has been both an honour and a privilege to support Elizabeth’s family over the past few weeks, organising the funeral remotely while ensuring that every detail was carefully arranged and that all of the family’s needs were met, creating a truly memorable celebration of Elizabeth’s life.

We can take the time to talk through your funeral wishes whenever suits you — either here at our funeral home or in the comfort of your own home.

A funeral plan is a prepaid, regulated agreement that allows you to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance, at today’s prices. It helps remove both the financial pressure and difficult decisions from loved ones when the time comes.

What a Funeral Plan Covers
Most funeral plans include:

Funeral director’s professional fees

Care of the deceased

A coffin

Transportation within the funeral service

By paying in advance — either as a lump sum or in instalments — you protect against future price rises.

What’s Often Not Included
Some additional elements are usually not covered, such as:

Flowers

Wakes or catering

Headstones or memorials

Newspaper obituary notices

Third-Party Costs (Disbursements)
These are costs paid to others on your behalf, such as:

Cremation or burial fees

Minister or celebrant fees

Today we had the honour of conducting a service for a man with a deep love of motorbikes. 🏍

But even more so, a love and respect for his family and friends, who turned out in their hundreds.

We listened carefully to every detail the family shared with us, from start to finish. Even the smallest touches mattered — including calling in at this gentleman’s favourite café for one last coffee, milky, just the way he liked it.

It was a very wet day, but nothing could stop this beautiful celebration of life.

It has been an honour and a privilege to look after this family and we thank them for entrusting us with looking after their loved one.

Guiding a family through a goodbye like this—especially in a crematorium filled with people, with such visible respect, is no small thing. The red theme and team colours feel like a beautiful way of honouring who that person truly was, and it says a lot that rivalries were set aside for the moment.

That’s genuine sportsmanship, but more than that, it’s humanity.

The emotional weight you carry, funeral after funeral, is often unseen.

Going above and beyond, paying attention to the smallest details, and truly listening—both to what’s said and what isn’t—that’s what turns a service into something meaningful rather than just procedural.

This service was beautiful conducted by The Art of Ceremony who was delicately chosen by our funeral director and delivered the service just how the family would of wanted there loved one to be remembered and life to be celebrated.

We don’t just conduct funerals we create space for love, respect, and remembrance.

Be gentle with yourself this evening. Days like that take a lot out of you, even when they’re done beautifully.

Everyone we look after we take the time with and make sure there loved ones get the best possible send off they deserve.

As we enter the last week of January, the days are beginning to stretch a little longer, and more light is returning after the darker season.

Grief can feel much the same. It moves differently throughout the year, and for many, winter can make absence feel sharper and memories sit closer to the surface. As the days begin to brighten, we hold in mind those who are navigating grief in their own time and in their own way.

Blue Monday

Today is often called Blue Monday — a day many people feel a little heavier, a little quieter, or a little more tired than usual.

Working as a funeral director here in Scarborough, we see every day how much people carry, often silently. Grief doesn’t always arrive with noise — sometimes it sits gently, sometimes it lingers, and sometimes it surprises us on days like today.
