I'm SO glad that I adopted this approach several years ago.
I'd spent several thousand pounds over the years being taught how to 'fix' people as they lay on the couch.
These short-term benefits at best left me feeling pretty deflated, until I embraced the emerging research that advocated helping patients by making them stronger...I know it seems obvious now but it was a large shift in mindset for me.

UPDATE ON WOMEN'S GROUP STRENGTH TRAINING SESSIONS....
AND WHAT TO DO IF INTERESTED;

Hi everyone

I've had three successful test sessions now (two with the fabulous runners from Rebel Runners and another with fellow workers at Queensway Business Centre) which has helped me to figure out how I want to run the group strength sessions.

For now, I will be focusing on creating the following women-only groups;
* Runner-specific Strength Training
* Over 60s Strength Training
* Open-age Strength Training

More groups will hopefully follow, but for now, I'm focusing on the above.

WHAT TO DO IF INTERESTED;
As I'm using my business FB page to promote these group sessions, I will offer spaces in the sessions to those who have clicked FOLLOW on my FB page.

I'll be making updates as and when I'm in a position to announce dates and times for the sessions.

Remember, these sessions are for those with NO / MINIMAL experience of strength training, to help you see that there is nothing to fear and LOTS to be enjoyed! :)

🌲🌲 the BIG loop: It's like a loop ... but it's bigger🌲🌲

On the 18th of April next year, we will be setting up a ten mile course through the heart of Sherwood Pines and letting you take on; one, three, five, seven or ten times, either as a solo runner or in a team.

This will be our first run with this format, but you can expect a Backyard Ultra style HQ up in our events field and all the support that you could shake a stick at!

The aftermath of a couples strength training session!
I absolutely LOVE introducing people to strength training, especially those who have no idea just how strong they are.

The highlight of today was seeing the fab lady deadlift 70kg. I never tell people the weight they're lifting, and simply focus on helping them go a tad heavier each set 🀏

I'm thinking of putting together a 'Women's over-60's strength-training group' here at my gym in Queensway Business Centre, Scunthorpe.
It will be a small group of up to 8 trainees, with me guiding and assisting as you rotate between the various strength training exercises.

I decided to treat myself to a pair of 25kg cast-iron plates to accompany the bumper-plates (the difference in thickness is incredible!). You can see the new plates in the videos, they're the grey ones.
Now that I had an extra 50kg to play with, I decided to see how far beyond my previous 150kg max I could go.
It's very rare that I go for a one-rep max as not being a competitive lifter, it doesn't really serve a hugely beneficial purpose, but I just felt like it!
I definitely found my limit this evening!
This squat machine is absolutely brilliant - safe, SO easy to use, no real technique or skill required - just a great opportunity to load the body and work the legs!!!

I enjoyed that, I'll sleep well tonight! ;)

Groups will typically be a maximum of 10, with me present throughout to demonstrate, help and encourage!
