TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT

A client messaged me 2 weeks post surgery after having a total knee replacement, following very little advice on their rehab from the NHS and wanting some extra help.

After an initial assessment of her knee and where she was at on the Total Knee Replacement protocol we got started on Stage 1 which was reduce swelling, regain full range of motion and muscle activation.

This video above was taken around 5 weeks post surgery following Stage 2 to focus on improving confidence with walking/stairs and reducing the reliance on walking aids. Also to improve balance and leg strength 💪🏻

Scapula Dysfunction ⁉️

The scapula (shoulder blade) plays a crucial role in healthy shoulder movement.

When scapular mechanics are disrupted — known as scapular dysfunction — it can contribute to shoulder pain, impingement, instability, and reduced performance.

This is often linked to:

• Muscle imbalances
• Poor posture
• Weak stabilising muscles
• Previous injury

Improving scapular stability and movement control is a key component in both rehabilitation and injury prevention.

This client got some treatment and also received advice on aftercare to strengthen and improve their scapula movement and control.

💡Patellar Tendinopathy💡

A huge problem I see when patients are stuck and unable to progress with their rehab is due to load management. Every patient is different but it is important to de-load the tendon correctly but this doesn’t mean to JUST REST. ❌

Luckily I first assessed this patient during a winter break for Christmas so we had some time to work and de-load from running and jumping. We then progressively loaded the tendon before phasing back progressive plyometric work in their return to sport phase. 💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀️

If anyone is struggling with their patellar tendinopathy rehab, feeling stuck or if you think you may have patellar tendinopathy and are unsure on the next steps, message me! 📩
