We’re proud to continue supporting St Margaret’s Centre, Kromek’s chosen charity 💙

Recently, Kromek colleagues presented St Margaret’s with a £500 donation, raised through proceeds from the Kromek tuck shop and a range of staff fundraising activities. The cheque was presented by Natalie Heslop on behalf of Kromek to Lisa Harrison, Centre Manager at St Margaret’s.

This latest contribution brings our total donations to over £2,000 in the last four years, something we’re incredibly proud of.

Our support goes beyond fundraising. Kromek colleagues have also volunteered their time to:
- Redecorate St Margaret’s offices, craft workshop and counselling suite
- Carry out major improvements to the Centre’s allotments, which provide fresh produce for the on-site café and help support service users 🌱

St Margaret’s Centre plays a vital role in supporting adults experiencing mental health challenges, helping to improve health and wellbeing across County Durham through recovery activities, programmes and courses that build confidence, skills and resilience.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, and to St Margaret’s Centre for the important work they do in our local community.

Kromek's CEO, Dr Arnab Basu, recently spoke with BBC Radio Tees about the work being done by the Kromek team and partners to make breast cancer screening technology more effective for women with dense breasts.

The new, 'ultra-fast' MBI technology being developed is advancing current MBI technology with shorter scan times and a smaller patient effective dose, with the latest results from the project being presented at one of the world’s leading medical imaging conferences in Yokohama, Japan.

Last week, the latest results in Kromek's pioneering breast cancer research project, conducted alongside Newcastle Hospitals, Newcastle University and UCL, were presented at one of the world’s leading medical imaging conferences in Yokohama, Japan.

Dr Alexander Cherlin, Principal Physicist and Project Lead at Kromek who presented to the conference, said: “These results highlight how advances in science and engineering can really improve breast imaging. It shows the value of bringing physics and medicine together to tackle a challenge that affects so many women.”
