Last night I was honoured to be invited to an event at the Scottish Parliament celebrating five years of South of Scotland Enterprise and the South of Scotland as a place to live, work and grow. It was a real pleasure to be there, reflecting on our own business journey to date and sharing our aspirations for the future.
I've always been deeply passionate about what this region has to offer, the talent, innovation, resources, and the countryside that encourages both big thinking and grounded, values led living. When I founded HomePhysio By Nicola, it wasn't just about delivering physiotherapy services; it was about being part of the local business and community landscape, championing what we have here and contributing to a positive story about what's possible in the South of Scotland.
During the evening, Kate Forbes MSP spoke about one of the key reasons the South of Scotland continues to see success, collaboration. A collaboration of skills, resources and importantly a shared belief that there is something truly special about this region. That message strongly resonated with me and reflects much of how our own business has grown, through partnership, trust and working together.
We also heard from the team at , alongside music played on a 200 year old flute gifted by Robert Burns to his son. It was a powerful reminder that without the South of Scotland, we wouldn't have Auld Lang Syne and therefore no Hogmanay as we know it, highlighting the cultural significance and lasting influence of this this region.
Later in the evening, Sam heughan, speaking on behalf of Galloway Distillery, described the South of Scotland as "coming home". It was a phrase that beautifully captured the idea that home isn't just a place, it's the people, the communities, and the sense of belonging that comes from shared purpose and belief.
For me, evenings like this reinforce why I do what I do. From starting HomePhysio By Nicola as a solo practitioner to now leading a team of ten, serving people across the Scottish Borders and from our specialist clinic in Selkirk, our journey has been shaped by this region and its people.
It was also a delight to share our ambitions to expand our holistic, preventative approach into Workplace Wellness, supporting businesses across the Borders with educational workshops, practical movement and exercise sessions, rehabilitation, and express massages. By focusing on injury prevention and workplace wellbeing, we aim to support individuals to stay healthy and active at work, while helping businesses improve productivity, staff retention, resilience and workplace culture.
I'm incredibly proud of how far we've come, hugely grateful for the support along the way, and more motivated than ever to continue championing the South of Scotland and the communities we serve.
