Hello all 👋🏻

Just an update on the status of the group… we are all working so hard (along with our day to day jobs) in getting superstar social recognised into a charity.

I think we underestimated the amount of work this involves, we are swamped with policies, insurance, banks and everything in between, but we honestly are so excited once all this hard work is out of the way to be able to provide you all with something amazing.

So I know we keep saying it but please do bare with us while we do all the paperwork and legal bits so we can bring you a great group.

I will upload some pictures of our hall and facilities for you all to check out!

Take care and enjoy the sun ☀️

Hi 👋🏻

I thought it was about time I would introduce myself so you know who will be running the groups when they start

I’m Emma, a mum of 2 (10year old and 6 year old) and I am one of Mia’s (Liz’s daughter) carers. Some may remember or recognise me from my previous job as a palliative care assistant at Demelza. I left Demelza in June last year (after 12 years there) and have been caring for children in the community since.
Obviously due to my role I have plenty of experience and ,if you do remember me, know my passion for sensory and messy play 🤣

I work for a lovely handful of children and families that are simply the best, but it saddens and frustrates me that families are often isolated due to their children’s disabilities .

So while talking to Liz we agreed something needed to be done to be able to include EVERY child and family into accessing social groups, days out, parties etc.
And Superstar Social was born! 😁

I’m really looking forward to meeting you all, seeing new faces and catching up with ones I know, and I just know this is going to be something spectacular!

Keep your eyes peeled for some photos of our hall and some posts on accessing the group!

Hi everyone

Unfortunately the group tomorrow is cancelled. Please pass on info to anyone you know who may have been planning to attend.

We really want to make the group something incredible, but need just a tiny bit more time to plan some things and make sure all of our paperwork is in order.

Thanks for the understanding and we can’t wait to see you soon. Date and theme to be announced - keep your eyes peeled 👀 ❤️

Lots of love

Evening everyone

Thanks for liking the page! I know a lot of you, but in case you’re wondering who I am and what the group is all about, let me introduce myself.

I’m Liz, mum to Mia and Jack, and married to Matt. Mia is 7 and had a brain injury when she was born. This has resulted in cerebral palsy (Mia is a full time wheelchair user), epilepsy and Mia can’t talk either. She’s doing well with a VOCA at the moment 😍

Mia absolutely loves being sociable but can be quite different to ‘typical’ children when attending ‘normal’ kids groups. Mia can get bored quite quickly, she needs lots of help with activities (she only uses her left arm and is quite strong with it!) and vocalises a lot when she is done with an activity and wants to move on 😆
Mia also loves music, dancing (ie rocking in her chair ha) and generally being the life and soul of a party. But this means a lot of SEN groups aren’t fun for her because they turn the lights on, make them music quiet and keep things calmer.

I realised there was hardly anything Mia could access out of school and thought the only way she would have activities is if we created something ourselves. The ‘we’ is myself and some of Mia’s amazing carers. I’ve roped them in to helping me as they have tonnes of experience in childcare, children with disabilities and being mums ❤️ I’ll ask them to introduce themselves soon.

Anyway…our first group is hopefully going to run on Sunday the 8th of May! It will be from 10.30-11.30am. We’re having a ‘theme’ for each monthly session. The first is Under the sea. More details coming soon.

Cost is £5 per child (£1 for siblings) and £1 per adult. We will have tea/coffee/soft drinks and cake for the adults, and squash & cake for the kids.

Social superstars will run at the Otford Village Memorial Hall, Otford, Kent TN14 5PQ. There is plenty of free parking right next to the hall. Otford is near Sevenoaks. It’s close to junction 4 of the M25.

Please do comment/message if you’d like more info, or would like to come along.

Thanks
Liz ☺️
