WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

Its been another busy week here at the Cedars! Here are just some of the things we have been up to; baking, balloon tennis, target practice, sensory activities, making music, exploring the WW2 memory box and welcoming some beautiful furry friends! Never a dull day!

🥮BAKING CLUB 🥮

Yesterday we made bread pudding. This was a great activity for reminiscing as many of our residents talked about making this for their families. It was also very sensory as we mushed the bread and milk together. It even gave residents a little upper arm workout as we stirred the thick batter. Plus, of course we got to eat it!

Today at 11am staff and residents gathered in the lounge to observe the two minute silence to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of all those who have served and fallen in conflict.

Yesterday some of our residents helped with our Remembrance Day display.

A huge thankyou to Shroton Ukulele Band who filled the lounge with music, singing, dancing and laughter yesterday afternoon.

Their selection of wartime songs to reflect Remembrance day really hit the spot with residents and staff.

🎇🎆Remember Remember...🎆🎇

What a busy week we have had here at the Cedars!

We have enjoyed lots of activities themed around Guy Fawkes and fireworks night. We made our own Guy, painted fireworks and decorated bonfire cup cakes. We even had real sparklers on our cakes!

On Thursday, residents engaged in a beautiful church service with our visiting Vicar, Helen. It was clear to see how much this meant to them, particularly joining in with the hymns.

On top of all that we enjoyed all our usual music and movement, crafts, games and quizzes, keeping our minds and bodies active.

Did you know that art and colouring can have the most wonderful effects on your mental and cognitive health? Well, it does!

Some of our residents get a lot out of spending time being creative and colourful, helping them relieve stress and anxiety too.

Recently, two of our lovely ladies took some time out of their days to enjoy a little bit of art therapy!

We captured so many lovely moments with the residents during their music sessions and today we have another one to share with you all...

Dating back to 1892 and written by Harry Dacre, the very well known song, Daisy Bell, has been a firm favourite for generations, passed on to children the world over!

Hard to believe that this song has been around for so long, but it's a firm favourite of some of The Cedars residents for sure,

Here are the lovely Jean and Howard, singing and swaying along to this classic tune, which transports us all back in time.🥰

During the fabulous Tina J's performance the other week, we spotted a few of our residents tapping away to the music.

Singing along to The Beatles' hit song, 'Ob‐La‐Di, Ob‐La‐Da', residents could not help but tap along to the infectious beat.

✨🎼PETER SINGS!🎼✨

Yesterday we welcomed the fabulous Peter Olford into our home for a nostalgic musical session which transported us all ack to yesteryear...

Peter's gentle guitar playing and singing was the perfect way to enjoy a relaxing afternoon of songs which many of the residents knew and sang along to!

From Country Roads by the late, great John Denver to The Streets of London by Ralph McTell and everything in between, Peter's session was appreciated from start to finish.

Residents closed their eyes and sang along, soaking in these wonderful songs!

✨☕CUPPA WITH FRIENDS☕✨

Enjoying a trip to a local venue recently, one lovely resident enjoyed a change of scene...

Heading off to the Black Cactus Shaftesbury, Rebekah, our Activities Co-ordinator, and Euvon, enjoyed some 1-2-1 time together over a delicious cappuccino.

These little outings are so important to our residents and a change of scene often does the world of good for a person's wellbeing and for Euvon, this was no exception!

Paula was back in action at The Cedars yesterday, with another fabulous Rhythm & Reminiscence session...

With the autumnal season well and truly upon us, we didn't let the soggy weather dampen our spirits, as inside our cosy lounge we were celebrating the sunshine in our hearts!☀️❤️

From the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic film, Oklahoma, everyone enjoyed the song: 'Oh, What a Beautiful Morning!' Singing it with great gusto!
