Elaine and I are thrilled to be able to offer you a unique and transformative experience with both of us again. It's been a while since we made a retreat together; we've both been engaged in our processes and learning.

The experience of learning movement and poses through the focus on our internal somatic feelings is one of the most beautiful aspects of yoga. It allows us to reveal our inner nature and understand ourselves more deeply. In addition, it helps us to internalise the movement and make it more a part of who we are. This can lead to a more conscious and meaningful practice. Somatic movement is an important tool for exploring our bodies and activities in a safe and controlled environment. It helps us develop a better understanding of how our bodies move, which can positively impact all areas of our lives.

Join me on my 12-part foundation course in Modern Postural Yoga to learn the basics of this ancient practice! As a yoga practitioner, you're probably familiar with the series of graceful flowing movements known as Surya Namaskar. But did you know that it first became a fitness fad in the UK back in the 1930s? It's remained a favourite in most yoga circles ever since.

But what is Surya namaskar? And where did it come from? To answer these questions, we need to go back in time...

In ancient India, the sun was seen as a powerful deity who could bring life-giving energy to the world. So people would perform special rituals and prayers to honour him. One of these rituals was called Surya Namaskar, which means "salute or greet-the sun". Join me for this fascinating history lesson and learn all about the origins of Surya Namaskar.

Shortly after we opened our yoga studio as Yogi Generation in 2002, Elaine created this beautiful artwork, of Surya namaskar. To create this, she used a single sheet of watercolour paper and painted each pose directly onto the surface with a calligraphy brush, using the texture of the paper to create a simple, illustrative effect. The illustration was arranged in a natural design to emphasise the flow of the poses.
She hand wrote the inspirational instructions herself and inserted them directly into the artwork. To celebrate the 20th-anniversary, we’ve made a limited series of A2 wall posters of this unique design.

I have found my yoga practice quite naturally gravitating over the years more and more into the essence of Vanda Scaravelli’s inspired teachings. I love this supportive form of yoga that emphasises the use of the breath to release tension from the body. The focus is on quality over quantity and on moving in a way that feels good for you. I’m a yoga practitioner & 500 hour IYN yoga teacher who is constantly refining what yoga means. How it fits in my life.

I work from my home yoga studio for weekly yoga classes, one to one’s and I teach workshops and host occasional small yoga retreats. I also have a yoga B&B service where you can stay and dive a little deeper into your yoga practice. I share my yoga teaching from my family home, it feels right that this vast, intimate system of shared knowledge and exploration of human condition is boundless and open to all of us.
