Hello and welcome!
I'm a physio led pilates teacher!
I have been a qualified physiotherapist for almost 15 years. I specialised in learning disabilities and postural care for over 6 years, and have spent a number of years working in falls, and have had experiences in various other areas of rehab as well as management of long term neurological conditions.
My current focus is on providing pilates sessions for individuals who are physically able, but may find it difficult (for a number of reasons), accessing 'mainstream' Pilates classes.
Perhaps the pace is not right, the skill level too high, maybe there is a communication barrier. Are there too many people, or too many strangers?
To me, Pilates is a tool that enables us to focus on core strengthening so that we can continue to function well, while reducing the risk of postural injuries that may result from poor posture and asymmetry, poor muscle strength, or joint instability.
My personal experience is that there isn't really much out there in terms of pilates or core strengthening for young adults within this community.
So I set my group up. I work with an inclusive cycling group.
My classes are fun, and we have around 12 people who sign up and attend. It is an inclusive class, so each participant can and is encouraged to bring a carer or a family member (or 2!).
We are into our fifth season now, and I can 100% see the growth and confidence in each of the individuals who attend.
It is a great way for my participants to develop great inner strength, and to attain better posture and balance.
Thanks for being a part of my pilates journey. Follow to find out where this goes. πͺ
