Could you join us at Kenwood Hall Hotel next week?

Some of our staff are training to deliver infant massage and we need your help. Parents with babies are invited to attend 3 free Infant Massage classes.

The course will cover how important your touch is in fostering your baby’s growth and development and how important nurturing touch is in promoting strong attachment and bonding.

If you're interested and free on the following dates next week:
Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 February 2026, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm contact Deborah on 07811 864255 or hovebabymassage@gmail.com for more information and to book.

Natural light is in short supply in the winter months, but day by day we're getting more light now the shortest day of the year has passed.

Today we will get almost half an hour extra daylight than on 21 Dec and everyday this increases.

Natural light increases our seratonin, happy hormones, and melatonin, which helps us sleep.

As little as 30 minutes a day can really give you a boost and a better night's rest.

If you can't get outdoors, consider buying a Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) lamp which mimics outdoor light. Plus don't be fooled by clouds, you can still get the benefits even on a grey day.

❗️TRIGGER WARNING - Birth Trauma❗️

❓Did you know that some research suggests that up to 30% of women and birthing people report finding elements of their birth traumatic?

❤ At Light, we recognise all Birth Trauma; that which is diagnosed, and those who identity as having it. We have assigned Birth Trauma Peer Support Workers and a Birth Trauma Peer Support Group, which is held at Knowle House on a Monday from 12:30 - 2pm

We understand that today may be a mixed bag of emotions for some, for many reasons.

But remember this; whatever this year has thrown at you, you survived it, and you WILL get through whatever is to come.

From all at Light to all of you, Happy New Year.

Let's be honest, eating well in the winter months can be hard - we all crave the warm, comforting and often fat filled foods, but they don't help our energy levels or mental state..

Eating well is even more important during the long dark days, as it can hlpe boost your body's natural immune system which can help in the fight against all those pesky colds and viruses (of which there are many this year).

The recommendation these days is to try to get 30 different plants into you each week, which is far easier than it sounds as this includes fruit, veg, nuts, beans, spices, herbs, grains, seeds and all the normal fruit and veg. This mix can really support your immune system.

Fresh, dried and frozen fruit and vegetables are all good to eat and, if you can, a handful of mixed nuts are a filling alternative when you're craving that afternoon biscuit.

Help reduce waste and make your life easier on the busy days by batch cooking health meals and freezing them. This saves you diving into the fridge for ultra processed foods and allows you all to enjoy home cooked goodness.

As a small charity we rely on generous donations from grants, funders and supporters like you.

Every single penny we raise goes towards making sure we can help more families across South Yorkshire who are struggling during pregnancy or the early years of parenting.

It can be really hard, completely changing your life, dealing with all the hormonal changes, the sleep deprivation and more and we're here to help families see they're not in it on their own. All our staff and volunteers have their own experience of difficulties at this stage in life so can really understand and support everyone who comes to us.

Our skin is less exposed to sunlight in the winter months which can sometimes lead to a vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D helps regulate the levels of calcium and phosphate in the body, which are important for healthy teeth, bones, and muscles. Plus a lack of vitamin D can cause fatigue, as parents of young children we don't need any additional fatigue in our lives.

The government advise that everyone should take a Vitamin D supplement in the autumn and winter because we don't produce enough from daylight. There are also a number of ways in which you can get more vitamin D naturally.

Natural sources of vitamin D include :

Oily fish – such as salmon, sardines, trout, herring or mackerel
Mushrooms
Red meat
Egg yolks
Fortified foods – such as some fat spreads and breakfast cereals
Some smoothies are enriched with extra vitamins
Liver - (but you must avoid liver if you’re pregnant)

For more information about how much vitamin D you and your family need to stay healthy visit the NHS website https://bit.ly/44t9fzN
