Last week was the Big Garden Birdwatch! When we were planning our Crosspool Crawlers trip for last week the Bird cafe at Hathersage seemed a perfect location.

The cafe is by the river with enormous glass windows with giant bird feeders outside. It was a beautiful setting to watch the different species of birds. There was a tiny little vintage shop with gifts and home produce. We enjoyed hot drinks and freshly baked cakes while sitting in this peaceful and tranquil place watching the birds.

Safety in the home is one of our top priorities and this involves regular fire drills for the staff. We are aware this can cause distress for our residents but it is essential to ensure our staff are fully trained and confident in the correct procedures.

Today we had a great fire drill with a fantastic response from the staff. During the drill Karina was observed re-assuring a resident who had moved into reception just as the alarm sounded. This quick action from Karina avoided unnecessary distress as the alarm sounded and the staff nominated arrived on mass!

Karina was rewarded with a treat from our new staff appreciation box which is part of our new initiative to reward staff on the spot for good practice observed. Karina chose a flavoured lip balm and was very happy with her choice 😊

Did you know today is National Squirrel Day?
Staff and residents We were watched the squirrels during breakfast club and continued to keep a look out throughout the day!

We thought our staff deserved a treat today for braving the weather and getting into work so we arranged a pizza delivery for their lunch 🥰

As the snow has come down the staff have put on their walking boots!

We would like to reassure our families and friends that the staff have safely made it into work and our residents are getting the care they need.

If you are planning to visit us today please do take care. You don't need to venture down the drive, simply give us a ring when you get to the top and we can let you in through the kitchen door. This is a much safer option!

When the day staff got stuck at the end of the road this morning due to the ice, the night staff came to the rescue! Collecting rock salt from our emergency supply they created a gritted pathway for the staff. We were like a "school walking bus" slowly and carefully making our way along the road to get to work so we could continue to care for our lovely residents.

Teamwork taken to a new level!

Yesterday we had our new years eve party with bucks fizz, nibbles, party music and a quiz. Residents from both units came together throughout the day, some chose to wear party hats while others entertained us with their dance moves.

Today we held a meet and greet in the reception area wishing our residents, relatives, friends and colleagues a happy new year!
