Mounjaro injections for weight loss in Sheffield

You might have seen online or on the news that GPs can now give out a medicine called tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) on the NHS to help people lose weight. While this is true in some parts of the country, it’s not yet available in South Yorkshire.

That’s because the people in charge are still making plans for how the service will work. This includes making sure additional support for physical activity, diet and nutrition is ready too.

We know this might be disappointing, but we ask for your patience while everything is being sorted out.

It’s also important to know that not everyone will be able to get tirzepatide, even if they want it. The NHS has very strict rules about who can have it, and some people might not meet those rules—even though the medicine is approved.

In the meantime, we’re here to help. Please keep talking to us about the other ways we can support your weight loss journey. And we’ll let you know as soon as there are any updates.

Thank you for your understanding.

Good evening
Hope you are all well.
As we continue to enjoy the warm weather here’s a few actions to stay safe:-
- keep out of the sun at the hottest times of the day, between 11am and 3pm.
- if you are going to do any physical activity, plan to do these during the cooler times of the day.
- keep your house cool by closing windows and curtains in rooms that face the sun.
- if you go outside, cover up with suitable clothing such as a hat, sunglasses, seek shade and apply sunscreen.
- drink plenty of fluids and limit your alcohol intake.
- check on family, friends and neighbours
- know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke and what to do if you or someone else has them.

Men’s health month is being observed this month, specially around this week which includes Fsther’s day on the 15th June.
This month is dedicated to raising awareness about men’s health issues and encouraging men to take proactive steps towards a healthier lifestyle. It serves as a reminder for men and boys to prioritise their health by making a doctor’s appointment when needed and adopting healthier habits.
Several diseases and health conditions tend to affect men more commonly or severely than women, due to a combination of biological, behavioural and social factors. Here are the main ones:-
Heart disease:-
- leading cause of death for men globally.
- risk factors: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise.

Depression and anxiety
- often under diagnosed in men due to stigma and less likely to seek help.
-men are more likely to show irritability or anger instead of sadness.
Su***de
- men die by su***de at a significantly higher rates than women especially in middle and older age

Common cancers
- prostate cancer, one of the most common and risk increases with age and is often slow growing.
- Lung cancer, strongly associated with smoking and there is a high mortality rate.
- Colorectal cancer affects both genders, but risk is slightly higher in men.
- Testicular cancer is most common in younger men, however, there is a high survival rate with early detection.

Alcohol and drugs: men are more likely to use and misuse drugs and alcohol leading to liver disease, cancer and mental health issues.

“ Your strength isn’t just in what you can endure - it’s in knowing when to take care of yourself. Your health fuels everything: your work, your family, your freedom. Don’t wait for a wake up call. Be the man who checks in, speaks up and stays strong- for yourself and for the ones who count on you”

If you have any concerns please give us a call.

TYPE 2 DIABETES PREVENTION WEEK
26th May until 1st June
Around 200000 people are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes every year - putting them at risk of potentially serious health complications and early death.
Modern life can make it hard to be healthy but, for many people, type 2 diabetes can be prevented by making small lifestyle changes.
Diabetes is a leading cause of vision loss in people of working age. It is responsible for most cases of kidney failure and lower limb amputation (other than accidents) and people with diabetes are up to 5 times more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke than those without diabetes.

Check your risk of type 2 diabetes - it could be the most important thing you do this week. Log onto https://www.riskscore.diabetes.org.uk

If you are at risk, you may be eligible for referral to the Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Program which helps people at risk through managing their weight, eating more healthily and being more physically active.

This week is the mental health foundations mental health awareness week.
Since 2001, the Mental Health Foundation has been leading in Health Awareness Week and bringing the UK together to focus on getting good mental health. This year the theme is community.

Being part of a safe, positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrive when we have strong connections with other people and supportive communities that remind us that we are not alone. Communities can provide a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times and give us a sense of purpose.
