There are mountains that look like they’ll never move.
There are storms that sound like they’ll never quiet.
There are days when the ground shifts
and we wonder if anything holds.
Advent leans in and says
God’s love outlasts all of it.
The shaking.
The breaking.
The seasons we didn’t ask for.
The nights that stretch too long.
Even when the landscape changes
God’s tenderness doesn’t.
It settles in the cracks.
It wraps around the weary places.
It breathes peace into the parts of us
that keep forgetting we’re held.
This is the promise that steadies us.
Not soft or flimsy.
Not wishful thinking.
Real.
Rooted.
Stronger than what threatens to undo us.
Advent invites us to trust
that love like this won’t be pulled away.
Not when we falter.
Not when the world trembles.
Not when we’re carrying more than we can name.
So we light another small flame.
It flickers, but it doesn’t fail.
A quiet sign that God’s compassion
is still here, still steady,
still choosing to stay with us
through everything that rises and falls.
