We have been busy Santa’s Elves in the Sodit office today making up Christmas gift bags for all the Women we support.

Thank you so much to all the customers of Dunelm Kilner Way who have kindly donated gifts so everybody who uses our service can have something to unwrap on Christmas Day.

We are so overwhelmed by the kindness & generosity of everybody who has gifted something that will change Christmas Day for so many people. Thank you Dunelm & thank you to all your customers, you’ve filled our hearts up with beautiful feelings! 💖💖💖

We started on our Distress Tolerance DBT module today and had a great session, so many shared experiences and great conversations on top of the learning. Really enjoying covering this and seeing how much sense it makes to everybody.

I practised making a natural moss bauble which has actually come out looking really lovely. So think we’ll be making some for the Sodit garden next week (or to hang inside if we can remember to mist them 😬😬)!

We’ve just dug up the last of our winter crops and shared them out so have some lovely baby celeriac and sweet potatoes to roast this weekend. Yum yum! 😋

All in all a very good day at Sodit!! 💖💖

We’ve had a great day today at Sodit. So nice to have some sunshine and get out in our garden!!

We have a couple of medical students on placement with us and it’s been lovely to see them enjoying our work so much just two days in. They took part in our Natural Connections group today planting lots of bulbs in the garden with the group members. The sun was in a lovely spot for nice shadows and we spent a bit of time observing the lovely way the flower shadows fell. Also there’s still plenty of colour we managed to find - snapdragons keeping going like the little troopers they are. We all left the session feeling better than we did this morning. 💖🌸

The students spent the afternoon taking part in our peer support group and had a blast. I really enjoyed watching them in the office - recapping over everything and learning how we communicate with the group through the rest of the week. We like to do a check in and see how everyone’s wellbeing is between sessions. So they don’t just get that one day of support - we are there for them all week if they need us.

I love that the university give the students this opportunity to learn in a different way and be part of an organisation like ours for a month. They learn so much from meeting the women who use our services and get to see how much help the charity sector offers to support people living with mental illness. I always feel it’s an experience that will make them better doctors in the future and our ladies always love having them.

Wellness Planning session & then Christmas decorations tomorrow! 😀🎄🎄

It’s been just over a year since we lost an important part of our team who used to keep us in check in the garden!

I’ve only just got to the point where I can talk about it but my Fly used to love coming to work with mum & he saw the garden grow from a patch of underused land into a space that was good for for the mental health of everyone.

He always had his head in every pot we were working in and loved being in the garden so much. I’m still deciding upon an area where I can remember him there, but here’s some pics of Fly Boy doing his thing for Sodit. We miss him so, but the memories are with us forever. As you can see when he was in he was our head gardener! ❤️

Was really excited to deliver the first session of our new DBT skills course today. It’s been a good while since I’ve taught any DBT stuff so it was lovely to get my teeth back into it. The course is particularly helpful for people with a diagnosis of BPD/EUPD, CPTSD and anyone who struggles to regulate their emotions.

We’ll be running it throughout next year so will put info up as soon as the next one is open for intake.

It was a lovely group of people today and we did it in our cosy room filled with comfy couches, lots of snacks, fidget toys and big doggy on hand for anybody that needed a cuddle. A brilliant morning - can’t wait to share more as we move through the modules! 💖

Another rainy day when we wanted to get outside enjoying Nature on Tuesday so we had to move inside and get our nature fix working with natural objects.
We also got some more of our wonderful nature inspired artwork up on the wall and started preserving some leaves in glycerine so we can create something that will last forever. There’s always a way to get close to nature even on those rainy days & we had a really lovely time and plenty of cups of Yorkshire Tea to keep us warm! ☕️ 😋 🍁 🍂

On this wet and gloomy night I’m enjoying sorting through photos of all the insects we have attracted to our community garden.

Here’s a few of my favourites to bring a splash of colour to your evening.

I love remembering the moments when we’ve spotted wildlife enjoying the garden and the lift it’s given to everybody’s mental health. I hope you get as much joy out of the images as we did at the time, nature has such a healing palette of colours. 💖

Looking forward to our Wellness Planning class tomorrow. We’ve been doing a lot of work on understanding anxiety and our vulnerability to stress via the stress bucket model. That pink bucket got super full within just a few minutes of thinking about some of our life stressors!

Tomorrow we are really going to get our teeth into kicking Anxiety’s ass and giving ourselves permission to do relaxing things to empty a bit of stress out of our buckets (without feeling guilty!).

Breathing exercises and grounding here we come!!! 🌬️👂👅👏👃👀

We didn’t have much luck with our sweetcorn in our community garden this year due to the weather being all over the place. However, we did manage to successfully grow a bit of glass corn!!! It’s an American heirloom and check out the amazing colours - they almost don’t look real!!! So very beautiful! 😍

It’s been dried and popped - afraid it doesn’t keep the colour when you pop it but one can’t have everything!

How incredible to put a seed in the ground, nourish a plant and then be sat eating hot buttered popcorn grown by your own fair hands!

It’s the best feeling ever and we get so many of these good feels in our Natural Connections group - it’s just that little lift in the darkness that we all need sometimes. 💖

Our CEO Steph did a firewalk last night raising money for Leeds Mind . Not only does she run Sodit but she also works with other mental health organisations. She’s a real mental health superhero in my eyes!! Check her firewalk - obviously she smashed it - go Steph!!! 🔥 ❤️

Breathing balls and books as far as the eye can see! The kindness of the women who use our services and want to give back never fails to fill my heart with teary joy! This month we recieved a donation of lots of breathing balls so that every member of workshops could use one at the same time and we wouldn’t be running out and sharing.

And then another lovely donation today of books that our client had found useful in her wellbeing journey, I’d mentioned wanting to create a Sodit library so women can access books as and when they need them so this has got us off to a flying start!

Thank you so much for your kindness, it really makes my world glow and improves the world of others so much! 💖💖💖💖

Survivors Of Depression In Transition (SODIT)

Supporting women in Sheffield who experience depression & mental health distress.

We are a support group for women who have/are suffered/suffering from depression and mental health illness. The overall aims are set out in our charitable papers but the main ones are - Empowering and supporting all women from the community who have experienced mental health distress - to educate the wider public in mental health issues relating to women and across all society - provide safe locations for meetings which have a friendly environment - to engage with all women regardless of inequalities.

Why the community needs us

Survivors of depression is all about giving women a chance to move on from their illness or period of life which has been very straining on family life and personal life. We have seen many women now who have managed to move on from the group towards a happy and fulfilling life. This is at the heart of what we do, and also what the government’s reform agenda in Health is about. We are very passionate about supporting women in Sheffield, and have been only funding on a very ad hoc basis.
